I know you're speaking for yourselves, but what i'm saying (constructive criticism) is that I think you're underestimating the scope of this new format that you've taken on. It's not a post in a thread, nor is it an article/editorial on the front page. You two are important voices, now more than ever (because you're being beamed into the ears of thousands of people worldwide, many of whom are not Ants i would imagine), and i beg of you not to see this as an attack on what you're doing, but rather a plea to recognize that this podcast format is a different realm/ a different animal than what you've dealt with before.
Think about talking head shows (anything from Meet The Press, to Crossfire, to Bill Maher, to PTI, to Baseball Tonight, etc). Usually, when there's someone taking one position, there's someone else with at least a mildly dissenting opinion, or at least someone who acknowledges a dissenting opinion. There's a reason for that. God knows that the forums would be boring if there wasn't some negativity/criticism of the band and it's work (a point that's been brought up a thousand times), but in
this format, in
this venue, i think you two should be careful with the negativity, especially when the two of you agree 100% on said negative remark. Actually, I think you've realized this already, as the podcasts have been
overwhelmingly positive so far, am i right?
i'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinions, i'm not saying that
at all. I'm just saying that you should consider what it sounds like when you both voice the same negative opinion without any dissent or acknowledgment of dissent.
still love these though. I respect and admire the both of you. Matt, you run a wonderful site here, an invaluable resource and meeting place for dmb fans, and Jake, your voice will always carry weight if for no other reason than you've listened to an
insane number of shows, giving you a perspective that i daresay is unique in its breadth. And that you guys have been in touch with management adds even more weight to your musings and reputations. These podcasts are a great idea, and you're pulling them off nicely. I just ask that you consider the gist of what i'm trying to say, that's all.
