Re: ***Official Ants Photography Thread***
I just upgraded to Lightroom 3. On the surface it's exactly like Lightroom 2, which means it's easy to use if you know LR2, but there are some nice new features in the 15 minutes I've spent with it so far.
1. There are a lot more presets included now, which will make it fun to use more "creative" edits.
2. You no longer have to wait for previews to "load". You click on an image and it's instantly displayed all crisp and sharp. That's really nice because it was really annoying in LR2 to wait for previews to load.
3. It automatically detects the lens that was used to take the picture and, if you choose, it will automatically correct for distortion as long as the lens you're using is of a major brand it's recognized. I think it recognizes Nikons, Canons, Sony, and Sigma. Maybe others. This is great because correcting distortion on wide angle lenses isn't always super easy. All I have to do now to correct the distortion on my Nikon 14-24mm is check the box called "Enable Profile Corrections" and it magically makes the lines straight. It's great!
4. In the Web module, you can create completely custom watermarks. I don't think that was in LR2. Instead of just the default Copyright notice in the bottom left corner of your images, you can create whatever watermark you want in any way you choose. That's really nice if you want to easily put more infringement resistant watermarks on your images without resorting to Photoshop.
Those are the things I first noticed anyway. I'm sure there are other things I'll see as I use it more.
