Oh he deserves to have his number up there eventually... but I'm a pessimist. He's still got half of his life left to screw something up or something bad to come out about him. Then people are crying to take down his number, statue, street sign, mowing x's through his face in the grass... etc.

Just give it a little time is all I'm saying.

It's way too early, don't miss him, still bombarded with stuff on NESN about him, average time between retiring and getting your number retired is 26 years for the Red Sox, coming back in 5 would be ideal I think

Not what I heard. Most of the guys on eei were making fun of callers with takes like the above saying this is why this fanbase can can be awful. Some people will bitch about anything.

Not sure why thinking it would be better to wait a few years to retire his number, like everyone else including Pedro, is a bad idea but oh well. I find nothing interesting or fresh about tonight but doesn't take away from how amazing he was, I think my favorite Ortiz moment is the 2004 ALCS walk off.
