I guess I'm the only one who likes this season so far. I admit the writing, story, acting aren't near as good as season 1, but I'm still enjoying it.

It's not bad, and while S1 was definitely better thus far, my biggest complaint is it's boring and cliche. BUT there's a lot of room to fix both of those. It's only 2 episodes in after all.

Apparently Kitsch and McAdams started dating because of the time they spent together on the set of this season. Wonder if she's pulled the same move on him as she did that guy in the first ep?

I'm enjoying it but it's just not nearly as captivating as the first season. From the first time MM started talking, I was completely drawn in and hooked on S1.

So far it just feels like the second half of an NFL pre-season game after the starters have been pulled.

    Re: True Detective-New HBO Show

Just watched the first 2 episodes. I'm intrigued, but the only thing that's bugging me so far is Vince Vaughn. I wanna buy into his character, but you can tell he's acting in this role...feels forced and not natural. So many of his lines are delivered in a way as if he's reading a script, instead of delivering with the intimations someone in that situation really would.

He had some flashes in the 2nd episode so I'm hoping he redeems himself later on. Him going bad at the end seemed a little more natural.

The bird head mask made me wonder if there's some Yellow King cult type thing going in this story too.

Is this season supposed to be only 8 episodes too?

definitely thought this episode was a step in the right direction. Vince Vaughn's role is getting a better.

not saying i didn't like him at the start. just more so that McAdams and Farrell were far more intriguing. this episode bumped Vaughn's character up quite a bit in my opinion. still don't really care too much about Taylor Kitsch's character.

The only vibe I've gotten from Kitsch is that he's in the closet (clearly) and at some point that's gonna change. I'm figuring that missing hispanic woman from the beginning is gonna play a role in all of this somehow.

I rewatched season 1 last week for the first time since I first saw it. I don't even know how to rank it in terms of tv series all time. It is just SO good.

Episode was definitely better but I was still bored through most of it up until the end. The last 15 minutes or so were really good. I think this season is gonna be a real slow burn but catch a whole lotta fire the last few episodes.

I've got no beef with the cast this season, Colin Ferrell is one of my favorite actors, I've seen Vince Vaughn in other serious roles before so I knew he had the acting chops to pull this off. My issue is that so far there's no clear narrative as to what the f is going on so to me so far it's boring and aimless.

I just wished they changed the title of this show. I'm trying not to compare it to S1, buts hard. They should have just called it something completely different to wipe everything true detective away from it.

With that being said, I like this weeks episode more than the last two. Still good tv.

I'm right there with you. The whole rail story isn't clear to me. The only stories I'm following perfectly is the personal stories. But you're right the narrative isn't there, it's too mixed up in all the talk that they use to advance the story rather than show it being advanced. To me, the writers and story are coming off as pretentious.

there's not much to read into the rail story.

Vince Vaughn basically use to be this tough-guy mob type of persona, but now he's moved onto being the mob guy who deals and makes money in politics. he's put all of his money into this California rail system, and most of his money was with Casper making deals for land. now, his money is MIA, his squad is being targeted, and he's going back to his old ways to figure out who's coming after him. all the while, he's being "protected" by Vinci, which is why the state is trying to find beef wherever they can. Farrell is stuck in the middle of all of this.

Yeah, the entire narrative is pretty clear to me. It's just that the writing is an impotent as the male leads.
