oh man, AMC was trying to push that show so hard, and it's hilarious that it aired right after Breaking Bad. Glad i never tuned in.

    Or good storytelling in general.

People expecting a payoff or breakneck pacing in the first slew of episodes irritate the ever loving shit out of me.

First three episodes have been great. Agree with the above, both Vince and great storytelling, know how to pace. I think there's been a fine balance of humor, suspense, curiosity, explanation and build up. It's been everything I've expected from that standpoint, if not, more.

And AMC waited to wear the next BB episode preview until a little bit into Low Winter Sun. I bet ratings dropped drastically after the preview aired.

Yeah Vince reminds me of David Lynch when Twin Peaks was on, even the camera work. I will be curious how this series goes, so far so good.

Exactly. It's not like the story isn't moving.

Somehow or another I watched every episode. Finale was actually pretty good, but everything before that was brutal.

I just figured something out from episode 1 that timestamps this series. Saul holds up his first paycheck in the cashiers window and its dated 5/13/2002, BB started 1/20/2008. So this show can only last 5 1/2 years

Yeah, Saul making cucumber-infused vodka/water looked a little like some of the cook shots from BB.

I think 5 seasons is plenty for any show not named Game of Thrones.

5 1/2 years can translate into way less/more than 5 1/2 seasons though. i trust Vince and crew know how to tell this story. not worried at all.

5 1/2 years can be a long time when you consider the writers control the timeline. Also, just because BB started in 08 doesn't mean the story has to end there. Saul didn't come in until S2 either and Walter wasn't his only customer. They can easily "tip-toe" around that storyline to include other issues.

That said, I trust the creative authorities of this show to know when to end it, much like they did with BB.

I bet in the last episode, Saul will get contacted by one Mr. Peter Mayhew - not necessarily in the final scene though.

I thought Walt contacted Saul because of Badger's situation.... Badger didn't contact him himself.

oh whoops, I think you're right. Been a while since I watched S2 of Breaking Bad, but I think Walt and Jesse find out that Badger got arrested and then Walt calls Saul at Jesse's recommendation, right?

Good interview with Odenkirk that went up today, lots about the show and it's direction. Probably spoilerish if you don't like previews

Re: Better Call Saul (May Contain Breaking Bad Spoilers)

If memory serves correctly, first time we see Saul in the flesh (not counting the TV commercial playing on Jesse's new tube) is when Badger is in the interrogation room and Goodman shoos the baby-faced detective out of there. Presumably, Jesse called him. And then later on, Jesse and Walt pull up to Goodman's parking lot, and Walt goes in posing as Badger's uncle.

I thought it was Walt who called him, I remember him and Jesse sitting in the CAPN COOK-mobile in the strip mall parking lot, looking at Saul's office and Jesse was trying to convince him to get in touch with him. I can't remember all the details, though.

Darnit, now I want to watch the first couple seasons of Breaking Bad again

Re: Better Call Saul (May Contain Breaking Bad Spoilers)

just finished ep 3. As an overall episode very good, but that was a REALLY hokey ending, the bag literally ripping open to spill the money out. Besides being pretty telegraphed, I don't know, it just seemed like a silly thing to have.

but all in all this thing's off to a great start, I can more easily see how AMC already committed to a 2nd season. And I'm guessing there's going to be a different little opening credits thing each time. I mean I wouldn't be super surprised for the second episode of a brand new series to have an established credits that the pilot didn't necessarily have, but now with the 3rd it's been a new one each time. That should be interesting, to see all the little moments they can come up with.

How do you not notice something as obvious as all 3 BCS openings are different?
Probably should go back and re-watch Breaking Bad since you likely missed half of the series.
Vince Gilligan and company's intricate and p much OCD-ness with layering and significance is nothing short of amazing.
