Re: Official Television Thread v2.0

Do I have to watch the miniseries before the first season of Battlestar Galactica? I've never seen a single second of this show.

I watched the first half of the first season. I can't remember if I was bored or if I just had too much on my TV plate at the time. It was decent.

Nope, in fact if you do watch the mini-series you may not even want to watch the rest.

Well even if NBC turns out to cancel Community, I suppose we can console ourselves just a little with the fact that at least the likes of Whitney isn't enjoying any better a fate. Cummings' sitcom has officially gotten the axe. Not a huge surprise, but welcome news that Parks & Rec is making it to a 6th season.

The least surprising news in the world is that ABC picked up Joss Whedon's SHIELD pilot for series, however I am rather shocked that CBS has in fact declined Shawn Ryan's Beverly Hills Cop pilot. I mean I didn't know anything about its quality, but with Eddie Murphy having actually been involved, even in a limited capacity, I thought it was sure to get picked up.

oh boy, I can already feel my blood starting to boil... so, The Following is getting a season 2, meanwhile things are not looking very good for Hannibal. It's definitely not listed out on the proper NBC fall schedule, but technically they're saying it could still live, but the best possible scenario at this point is it airs as a midseason show. Obviously we're talking about two different networks, but my good Hannibal is so ridiculously superior to the Following in every way.

So Seth Meyers is taking over for Fallon. Solid pick, but what I really want is the Bill Hader comedy hour every night.

Seth Meyers could be the worst SNL anchor ever. Don't like the choice at all.

But I'm not up that late anyway.

Hearing now about how they're handling the final season of How I Met Your Mother, even though I've never watched the show, with this being a woman that's new to him, doesn't that sort of make the first 8 years totally irrelevant?

I found out something yesterday that just blew me away. In reading about Hannibal getting its 2nd season order, the article mentioned the show's median viewer age is 45.7, and that is the youngest of any drama from the original 3 major networks (NBC, CBS & ABC). That is still WAY older than I ever would've imagined.

Casting news is out for the new Damon Lindelof series Leftovers, based on Tom Perrotta's book of who isn't taken up to heaven after the rapture. Justin Theroux plays the lead, and now the cast includes Christopher Eccleston, Anne Dowd, Amanda Warren and Carrie Coon. Peter Berg is directing the pilot episode.

House of Cards and Top of the Lake are two newer suggestions that you may not have seen yet.

Sherlock and Mad Men are must see's though, if you haven't already.

Top of the Lake is a BBC production with peggy from Mad Men as the main character (murder mystery, child disappearance plot line)

The younger demographic is the loudest about what's good and bad, but they also watch the least amount of live TV. Sort of a weird juxtaposition.

well, they certainly anyway seem to be the demo that still watches TV in the "old fashioned" way, at least. I mean I don't have hard numbers here to back it up but I'd be shocked if I was wrong about this, they do the most watching via all the alternative methods.

the younger crowd? are you implying that the older you are the more likely you are watching shows via an alternative method?

Doesnt seem even close to correct

i think he meant that younger people are watching netflix and other alt methods as opposed to older, but i could be wrong

i think the article you posted originally is a bit misleading Beebz, the title anyway (im 29, i dont have time to read past the title lol)...the big 3 networks median age is that, but what is the median age of AMC, Fx and HBO? I'd wager that its significantly younger. I honestly think of Law and Order (and any spin offs) as my dad's show. NCIS was stale imo pretty quickly. I think the only saving grace for the median age of the Big 3 are reality shows, because single 30 yr old women love the bachelorette and DWTS.

I just think younger crowds and their shorter attention spans require much higher quality programming, and thats what you get from my generations Big 3 (Fx, AMC, HBO)

oh yeah, for sure. the older crowd (like my grandparents that still have aol accounts and log into aol to browse the internet, argh) still watch it the old fashioned way.

I also dont usually watch anything "LIVE" anymore......usually always from DVR days or even weeks later.
