Are you maybe assuming they use artificial flavors because theyre so good?
Nope, because there is very little food that doesn't use artificial chemicals or flavors.

That's a reason that makes In-N-Out unique..

Chick-Fil-A fries are the best though

It's weird to not finish food you don't like on a road trip, get to the airport and forget to throw out your food cause you're in a hurry?

I kinda thought the burgers were OK, but the overall experience was pricey for what you get.

Honestly, the burgers at Five Guys reminded me of Portillos, but twice the price. Nothing special. I guess their peanut baskets and extreme servings of fries are the only things that stand out in my mind.

I haven't had In N Out in over 10 years, so I can't comment on how they compare.

It's not that hard to buy good potatoes, slice them into fry like shapes and deep fry them in natural oil. Pretty damn tasty as well.

That comment doesn't even make sense. Is he talking about the food? The atmosphere? Has he ever been to a soup kitchen?!

Maybe you make mediocre choices in your toppings. Where I get Five Guys, the ingredients are all fresh. The taste really depends upon how you dress your burger.

The taste of a burger should not depend on what I am putting on it. In N Out is much better. Miss it so much.

    All of this

If you have to dress a burger a certain way for it to be good/better, then it's not a good burger to begin with.

Unless you're cooking on a charcoal grill, quality ground beef (they probably both use 80/20) tastes pretty much the same off every griddle (except Kobe, which is awesome). I'm assuming the cooks at these franchises have about the same level of expertise.

I've never had In N Out, but really want to try. My only gripe with Five Guys is the price.

The taste of a burger (or fries) should not depend on what you put on it? Then why have animal style? In n Out is okay, not bad for a chain burger, just nothing great. If I'm going to have a fast food burger, I'd pay a little more to have a better tasting burger at 5 Guys. In n Out is just a mediocre burger with a lot of hype. I've never been anything but disappointed when going. Meh, its okay, fills my hunger but not much else. At least 5 Guys, while not extraordinary, still tastes good and satisfies me much more than an In n Out burger ever has.

    1. Yes it does - franchises typically use less expensive items
    2. Yes it does - better paid, means better cooks
