Definitely one of my favorite jazz albums. I don't particularly love
Mingus Ah Um but this is definitely one of the best jazz albums out there.
Also, today I'm listening to
Giant Steps again today, as well as
Birds of Fire by Mahavishnu, and Herbie Hancock's
Empyrean Isles (I'm still waiting for my copy of
Maiden Voyage). These are definitely three of my favorite jazz albums (Mahavishnu doesn't quite count I guess). Giant Steps is definitely my favorite Coltrane album, the title track, "Countdown," "Naima," and "Spiral" are particularly incredible, but the whole album is phenomenal. Really good pacing and flow for a jazz album, IMO.
Also, I also just downloaded
Milestones on Ruckus but can't quite penetrate it. Obviously "Sid's Ahead" is good and "Milestones" is a fantastic track, but I think it will require more time. I didn't quite get
The Black Saint for a while, it seems that some jazz albums require numerous listens to really distinguish between different tracks and to hear and recognize all of the nuances.
