Evoltuion of DMB

Although I am in the same boat with almost every other negative fan in here I think we should cut the band a little bit of slack. Yes, dave has went downhill as far as lyrics go but the music has not been all that bad. As you take a look at other bands I think it is important to note that PJ and Phish have had similar paths. PJ's first four albums were outstanding then they leveled off (similar to DMB). Phish has been through trouble within themselves and I think it is fair to say that they aren't exactly the same band either. It isn't just important to note where the band has come from over the last twenty years but also where music has come. Look what the most popular music is these days. Don't get me wrong Dave could do a much better job in picking songs and deciding what he is going to play night in and night out, but it is fully understandable where the band is at.

What's so hard to understand? Most bands aren't going to continue to please the way they did like they did in there height

I get what you're saying OP. I see the comparision you're making. First four albums of...

DMB: UTTAD, Crash, BTCS, BS= all great.
PJ: Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code, Yield = all great. (I know this is five)

The one thing that PJ does far better than DMB is the setlist aspect. Look at PJ's sets. Variety of classics, rarities, and staples every night. All fans are left satisfied. Wish I could say the same about DMB. Eddie is just a far better front man than Dave is. It's just a fact.

pearl jam's last two albums weren't their best, but they had good songs on them and haven't written anything close to as embarrassing as be yourself. they also have more diversity in their sets and imo they're a more exciting band to see live. can't speak for phish because I'm not a huge phish fan

I completely agree with all of this, however, one thing to factor into this is that PJ usually plays at least 30 songs a night, often times closer to 35, while DMB is usually in the 21-23 range.

Honestly, if DMB were to add 7-10 more songs a night, it would probably mean even less variation though...

...did I just counter my own point?
