I've seen Dave playing what looks like a minature 12 string guitar, is that what it is or is something else? I've seen him use it for sister, squirm, and baby blue.

Not sure...it's been speculated in some threads here an WH, I think the shape looks more like GA than GS, and the top looks cedar (a bit dark to be spruce), which pins me at a GA7

    Seems like it fits....http://www.taylorguitars.com/Guitars/Acoustic/GA/GA7/

Why does everyone long for the Chet? Jesus, he stopped using that guitar in 2000 for a reason. It may sound "great" in a mix, but it is wretched sounding by itself in my opinion. I'm glad he made the switch.

    nice bump.

Calling songs is much harder now -with the new guitar being used (similar to the color pattern of the one used during lying/stay or leave). I will admit; as soon as I see the baritone I'm dissapointed and only hoping for break free (which I could still take or leave) and some devil. A question on the baritone - did he use it on some versions of sweet up and down? I hear no 12 string on 2007 summer sampler and hear what seems to be some kind of electric.

My 2 cents on the chet is the only reason fans love it is because they associate it with the early days and before these crowded streets. I've never been a fan of the guitar - in both sound and appearance.

The new guitars make it much more difficult to predict what song is going to be played

I can usually tell what song it's gonna be based on the guitar but when I'm up close I can see where Dave has his fingers. He always holds the chord for a while before he starts playing.

Not if you know the tunings of the new guitars. The raised-B guitar is the same as last year and his standard one is a little lighter than that. He uses his old Taylor for Drop-D and as a back-up for his standard when he breaks a string (which seems to be on every other song)

Just my .02 he didn't just tune his old standard axe down for the drop D songs. It has always been a completely different guitar. It has far less wear on the top.

Because of my guitar playing and basic knowledge of instruments that the band uses, even with the new guitar, I still know about 75 % of the time. Its not fun though, I wish I didn't.

His old drop D guitar was a different 914ce. It had a sharp cut-away and his standard was round.

Here are pics of his old guitars. He now uses his old standard guitar for Drop-D

I haven't seen many pics from this year. Nice catch. I wonder why he changed to that one. You'd think if he was gonna change to a new standard it'd be to preserve that old Taylor and he'd stick with that 914 for the drop d songs. Does anyone know why he changed in the first place?

I thought I read he likes to support smaller guitar makers but that could be bullshit.

Gibson is certainly not a smaller guitar maker. I don't know why he switched, but I have noticed that he breaks a ton of string on the Gibson. He broke 2 or 3 a night in Chicago, all when playing the Gibson

Ah! I was doing this all weekend.. I basically knew what songs were coming or at least had 3 or 4 on the front of my mind. I'm going to stop looking up at the stage between songs from now on haha.

its easy to tell the difference between the raised B guitar and the new standard guitar. they're both the sunburst design, but the raised B is orange in the middle while the new one is yellow, and its pretty obvious what color is what. they are not close shades at all.
