Not a sex scandal really but

I was on Facebook and noticed that a girl a year younger than me (I graduated high school in '07) is now married and pregnant to one of our high school teachers. Granted, it's all legal and what not now, but it's so strange. She was a goody two-shoes in high school and he was a huge nerd and I had heard he was fired for hooking up with a student or inappropriate behavior or something. So strange to me.

Say you're a parent of a boy and a girl. Would you have the same reaction if your 16 year old son slept with a 30 year old female teacher than if your 16 year old daughter slept with a 30 year old male teacher?

It came up in discussion today, I'm curious what others think.

I don't think I would. It's a totally different scenario for a variety of reasons. There are a lot more negative reproductions for girls in that situation. Pregnancy, mental, physical, and emotional distress, possible social reproccasions. For a boy, I'd be upset about it because an adult was inappropriate for him but there are much fewer, if any, truly negative consequences for the boy in that situation unless it was done against his will.

I honestly believe I would. It's really creepy to me when adults want to sleep with teenagers. If a person is 30, they shouldn't be sleeping with someone under 23/24. As you get older, it that gap can widen but I also think it's creepy if you break 20 years at any age.

She's due in May, meaning she got pregnant in August, and the story makes it sound like she had sex with the kid in October. So she obviously knew she was two months pregnant when she slept with a 16 year old in her class. I wonder if the kid knew? At least that means the kid is most likely her husband's.
