This is the frontman of the band talking.

"You guys are reading too much into this guys words. They'll be back sooner or later"

If he wasn't there wouldn't be 50 + shows on his year off.

People do things because they've always done things, don't know what else to do etc etc. It was good to hear he's still excited.

The person above you said it right... if he wasn't happy, he would not be playing 50+ shows just to do it... he has enough money for 10 lifetimes.

Hahaha this makes yearn for Ants of days past...Ol' Pineapple Man..That dude loved to fill his posts with "f r i g/g i n". It was outstanding...and so frequent that the word eventually got censored. Haven't seen him post in awhile..always had good points, I thought

    Re: New Interview With Dave

I like interviews like this. It makes you feel like you're sitting at the coffee shop just talking with Dave Matthews about whatever. Politics, music, elevators, family, work etc...

I do think the break it was a collective and agreed upon thing by the band that Dave probably just sparked. He may almost be taking the blame for it here so no one will start rumors about anyone else.

It's funny how he mentions guilt is a useless emotion, then almost talks about himself being the lucky millionaire who doesn't work harder than anyone else. THAT'S HIM. He was a hippy musician in traveling in a red van with a band, and a really smart hard working manager, who made them all filthy rich.

I don't think all rich people just got lucky, some did, some didn't, most are really fucking smart. Smarter than the average joe who albeit does work his ass off, but just doesn't know or care to think about becoming a billionaire.

Richard Branson got rich off starting a record store and label and built Virgin into a 200 plus company that it is today. Some luck sure... But also a shit ton of hard work. Trump is different. If that's who Dave is referring to fine.

This interview could be taken that this band is on hiatus indefinitely, or just catching Dave in a very honest beginning of his first full year off from the band in 26 years and just venting a bit as to why. He sounded sick of it though, or was on the verge of becoming sick of it. I don't get why they don't come up with new material then if that's the case. Unless the whole circus is just getting old.

There is a lot of crap that goes on outside of playing for these guys that can get old quickly, wanting to take a break doesn't necessarily mean Dave is sick of playing for 30,000 people going nuts for him / them

    Re: New Interview With Dave

    Interesting interview.

Definitely felt like Dave's typical rambling interviews. I take it Dave doesn't put too much stock in his own words that come out (aside from the activism which seems to stuff he truthfully feels).

I'm not sure how I feel walking away from that about the future of the band. Seems like they're on good terms (which is pretty outstanding when you consider they're basically an office of high level managers who've been working together for 25+ years, that's pretty rare in real world and music world) but just burnt out on doing the same summer thing over and over. I like that Dave still has a passion for playing. He needs to explore that more instead of playing the cash songs. Go do something with Jakob Dylan or reach out to Trey again. DMB can and should rest for a few years.

How the hell does "The Fresh Toast" get such a nonchalant interview with Dave Matthews anyway?
    They're the freshest!

i get that, and im sure daves pretty pissed at boyd (i would be too if he's playing in front of 30k people everynight out of key and missing parts)

but doesnt it all boil down to how he/they feel on stage?
how much more can matter than their feelings on stage?
