    meh. they're alright.

There's a lot better out there IMO. But music is subjective (unless you like Nickelback or Fergie).

Also I would disagree with you that DMB is the best band out there "currently." Maybe they were in their prime 94-98, but they're a shadow of what they used to be...but then again this is a discussion for DMBc.

Great band. I don't follow as closely as I'd like to though. Haven't they had like 3 different guitarists in the past 3 years?

From what I've read, the original guitarist died in 03 and they had a replacement and then he left in 06. So their current guitarist has been with them since 06.

Yeah, I saw them a couple times and all they did was just stand there. And the tens of thousands of people just stood there too cause that's what they paid for. People to stand on stage and do nothing. Panic right there.

Watching right now. No doubt this band has a lot of talent, but I think their sound is way too hard rock-driven for a jam band.

I have no idea what this means. Care to explain? I tend to find them more blues driven than heavy.

thats why i like them. they're different than the typical jamband, they offer something different while still being like other bands in that genre.

    Re: Widespread Panic

I would not expect most current dmb fans to like wsp. Definitely a different experience at the shows, and the sound is not as processed (and I'm hesitant to use that word, but it's all I could come up with) as dmb. I'm drawn to musical exploration, so this is why I find myself still going to wsp shows (and Jimmy has definitely helped this) and not dmb shows. I still think each member of dmb have unbelievable talent, and sometimes they get to show it, but it's really been removed from their shows. But as someone mentioned in this thread, music is completely subjective...thankfully. RR '08 was fantastic as usual.

Michael Houser, who founded wsp w/ John Bell, was the lead guitarist until he died in 2002 from pancreatic cancer. George McConnell, a friend of the band, filled in until '06. Jimmy Herring is now the lead guitarist, and imo, has re-energized the band w/ his sound.
