If Mumford is Folk/Bluegrass then why do people put them in the same genre as Bon Iver?

It used to mean an attitude or a sound. Now I think it just means not being directly on one of the big three/four major labels.

This was something that surprised me after Arcade Fire won the Grammy last year. I figured they were fairly well-known. They had been on the cover of fucking Rolling Stone, right?
No. More people associate them with "who the fuck is Arcade Fire?" than actually know their music.
Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Wilco, The National, My Morning Jacket. Now. I love these bands. But these artists have gotten about as big as they're gonna get.
Fact: Adele sold about the same amount of copies of "21" in the week after the Grammy Awards that "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" has sold total.
