Re: The Gorge Q&A and FAQs

My girlfriend and I are going for our first time this year. Anyone have any tips about where to stay/eat? Better off camping or trying to get a hotel?

Any help is much appreciated.

Check out the FAQ in my signature. I think it will answer most of your questions. At this point finding a hotel/motel room will be challenging. As odd as it may seem since the Gorge isn't until September it's kind of late in the game to start planning, but it isn't impossible. And 99.9% of us are biased and will always choose camping over hotel/motel holiday inn. You get to really connect with the community aspect of the Gorge when you camp.

If you have any questions that aren't covered by the FAQ or this thread please ask.

Wildhorse looks really nice and I've heard good things about it. You have any recommendations about where to stay in Mt. Rainier National Park or just outside of it? Planning to fly to Seattle on Monday August 29th, then spend 2 days in rainier before traveling to the Gorge Thursday morning/afternoon.

Wildhorse is great. The staff is incredible and the grounds are incredibly well maintained.

I've only done a day trip so I don't have any suggestions for lodging.

No reason you can't do that but like was mentioned above, you risk getting overflowed into D9 if you do it too late.
Oh right, that would work, never tried it, but makes sense. The car line up on Friday can be long, but easy enough to butt in front of your buddies.

How many ppl remember when cell service sucked ass at the gorge? Like Pre - 2006 I think. Made coordination almost impossible!

No shade canopies to loan anymore as they have all been broken when we loan them out except our 2 that we weigh down with ballasts and have never lost one in all the shows we have been to at the gorge. We live about 2 1/2 hours from the venue so we bring way too much stuff but we live it up while we are there. Anyone that cares to can camp with us for that matter and we are quite hooked up for cooking, charging station for electronics, propane fire pit for warmth and smores after the shows at night, music at camp etc so all you need to bring is your own food and drink and we have the rest covered. We often get a group of 20-50 plus people that have not met previously for a Labor Dave get together and every year it really feels like going home to our festival friends and family at the Gorge:-) We do not camp in Premier or Terrace because we want to have our campspot available to all our DMB friends and would not want to be secluded where someone from general could not hang out with us. Just our personal preference.

If anyone camping at the Gorge camping area needs a tent or chairs or even sleeping bags let me know and we will bring extras for you:-)
You are amazing. It will be my 3 friend's and I's first time out to the Gorge for a show, I definitely want to stay in touch in case we need some of what you're offering. Definitely understand if people have already booked all of your stuff though! cheers

Gold passes are still available on ticketmaster if you don't find someone trying to sell one. $383.25 with fees plus shipping charges.

Damn, that seems high. Almost double the price of Premiere just to have a shorter walk to the venue?

Rental car from the airport to the campground is going to be the most expensive part of the weekend which sucks especially since the car is going to be sitting there not moving pretty much the whole time

Yes, with none of the amenities of Terrace which before fees is only $80 more than Gold.

Never been and trying to figure out if I can pull it off. Really want to. Couple questions can you still get a camping spot without a vehicle and is there a good way to get to the venue from the airport without renting a car. I would hate to spend the money on a car to just sit there. I'm goanna be going lone wolf style and would rather not get a car if I don't have to but it's looking like I pretty much have to

Seattle is twoish plus hours away so a car is pretty much a must unless you can find a rideshare. And most of us lock up our valuables in our car while at the show.

Check out the FAQ in my signature for lots of information.

10-4 once I can lock down some camping I'm goanna pull the trigger. Don't know if I feel like spending the money for gold but its kinda late in the game to get picky. Thanks for the info

I thought they were, but then looking at the tour to date, that is not the case.

General camping is still available as well and despite people's devotion to Premier and Terrace there really isn't anything wrong with general camping. And it is far less money than gold.

This is the first year that my gf and I both have the time to be able to hit the Gorge, but is it too late in the game? I think the most troublesome thing is being able to get all the gear together since we wouldn't bring it all from NC? Do those equipment rental packages sell out way in advance? What about those all inclusive units in the Oasis section? Really hope we can pull it off, it's my first time off from filming and the first time in 16 years that she's had off from work. Thanks for the assistance.

When you arrive and before you enter, one of you get out and find a car in line that has less than 6 in their car; get in with them and get back into your car once entered

Re: The Gorge Q&A and FAQs

Just throwing this out there. I am flying in solo from San Antonio to Seattle Thursday night. Right now I am only planning on going to N2 and N3, as I wanted to do a little sightseeing, and have a meeting Friday (done by noonish) I have hotel reservations, but I would reaaaally like to camp. I can't afford the camp pass, car, and to buy provisions once there, so would want to know if anyone would be willing to take another person in. Would pay my portion of the camp fee +food/provisions as I wouldn't be using the money on the hotel. If other people just happen to be coming in Thursday night, I would cover the car rental to help offset camping costs..

ANOTHER option, is if anyone is coming in for just Saturday and Sunday from Seattle and would want to share a ride, would really enjoy having someone to make the drive with me. I have a hotel that is... ugh 116 miles from the Gorge for Saturday and Sunday Nights. (which is still an hour closer than my drive from home to the Woodlands, my *home* venue lol, so not really *that* far in my book)

I am keeping my hotel room for Sunday night in North Bend regardless, so I will be closer to the airport Monday morning. Again if anyone needs a place to crash/shower etc because of an early flight Monday, lemme know!

Been going to see DMB since 97, and have always gone to shows with non fans. This is a once in a lifetime trip for me, as I haven't been out of the state of Texas in almost 20 years, and NEVER to the West Coast, so I really want to make the most out of the trip and get the whole experience of it.

*~*~* Stay up and make some memories *~*~*

What about those all inclusive units in the Oasis section? Really hope we can pull it off, it's my first time off from filming and the first time in 16 years that she's had off from work. Thanks for the assistance.
Welcome! Take a look at the FAQ in my signature for tips on how to fly with gear. Back 40 is sold out, but REI won't take reservations until August so you might have some luck with them, but truly it is possible to fly with all the gear you need. The Oasis section is sold out. Your options as of now are Gold or General.

This sheet will give you a comparison between Gold and General.

You will want to jump on a rental car NOW because the prices are a LOT more than last year.
