Spinoff: Is (objectively, of course) Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King a good album?

This thread is inspired by the thread UTTAD vs. BWGGK.

So, the question is this: Is Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King a good album?

Poll is coming.

I think it is a good, but definitely not great (not even close) pop / rock album.

Part of me things solely because of Carter's work on this album, that it is great. Otherwise, it's just good.

BWGK is a good album. I think it's exactly what the doctor ordered. After 7 years of not releasing good material, I think the band knew what they had to do. As Dave said in one of those documentaries, the album has a lot of carefully crafted music. Every song belongs on the album. In my view, there isn't one that doesn't belong, and I think the album flows well. Forget about comparing it to "The Big 3." Take the album for what it is, and it is good. Imagine if the album wasn't good, all the big fans would be in the fetal position, crying, or listening to all the old stuff to cover it up. That isn't happening, at least to my knowledge.

Its definitely not a GREAT album but since you said GOOD then yes. Songs like SMLAM, FTWII, LITHOG and Squirm make it good.

So does this mean that everyone who voted believes that aesthetic judgments are objective in nature?

I was being tongue-in-cheek with the (objectively, of course) part.

    Yes, unfortunately.

*edit* of course, if BWGGK is only "subjectively a good album" then it really isn't a good album at all. Or a bad one. By definition.

Some where, there's another parallel universe where DMB made exactly the same music. Everyone picks Stand Up as their favorite album, and they have a Big 2 (ED and SU), meanwhile, UTTAD, Crash, BTCS and BWGGK are just not good enough efforts.

My distant 5th favorite DMB album, long behind the Big 3 / Lillywhites.

    Pretty good record though.

Is the album "good...," cmon, that's pretty vague.

There are some good songs on this album.

There are some bad songs on this album.

Compared to DMB standards, it's somewhere just short of the middle for me.

Compared to the rest of the music released in 2009, it exceeds everything I heard.

I think it's an excellent album, especially considering the heavy blow of LeRoi's death.

My favorites are Lying In The Hands, Baby Blue, and Time Bomb, but the WHOLE record is consistently wonderful.
