A New Record

At 3 Hours and 5 minutes of song time, Alpine N1 is the longest DMB show ever played! All venues need a lack of curfew

Dave does actually. I've heard and seen a lot of interviews where he refers to their newest album as a record. Heard a couple IEMs in the past with him referring to how a song sounded "on the record".

But true, most people don't say record anymore. Though, vinyl is pretty big these days.

Dave is a child of the 70's, so he gets a pass. I watched a classic rock documentary yesterday, and everyone used the term "record"

I use 'record' all the time. Am I an anomaly?

    Re: A New Record

i think there needs to be a * on the record, as it came in a different era. the two sets allow them more time to play. there are many shows over the last year and a half that have been exceptionally long. its much more common to have a show at 2:45+ now than it was up through 2013.

there were 31 shows this summer so far, but only 26 have times listed on the almanac. 11/26 shows so far this tour broke 2:45 and 22/26 broke 2:30. in 2014, while only 3 shows broke 2:45, there were 31/40 that broke 2:30. compared to 8 shows in summer 2010 that were longer than 2:30 and 12 in both 2012 and 2013 that surpassed 2:30.

The time is song time not stage time. Two sets shouldn't make much of a difference. Curfews need to stop

i know the time is song time and not stage time, but do the math.

with 1 set, they come on around 820 and get off stage at 11. thats 2:40 of stage time. take out the encore break and the time between songs and you're looking at probably about 2:15 of song time. shows that are longer than that typically have encores that last until about 11:10-11:15. once in a great while they hit 11:30. this shows true in the amount of long shows in the past (not many), which i talked about in my previous post.

but with 2 sets, they come on around 720 and play for about an hour. so that right there brings us to around 1:00. they take a break until about 9 and come back on until 11 still. so thats 3:00 of stage time with 2 sets vs 2:40 with 1 set. take out the encore break and time between songs again and we're around 2:30. same as before, have the encore go until 11:15 and we're at 2:45 of song time, with the "once in a while" late encores that go until 11:30 now taking the song time total close to 3 hours.

so its clear that the 2 set format add about 20 minutes of song time to the show vs only having 1 set. the strictness of the curfew plays a roll as well, but it is not the only factor.
