Will 'Let You Down' ever be liberated?

I was messing around on the Almanac when I realized just how long it has been since Let You Down has been played. It's by far the longest-shelved song off of any DMB studio album; it hasn't been played by DMB or D&T since 1997! It only has two releases, one DMB and one D&T, which is seven less than "Cry Freedom", the next least-released on Crash.

Any particular reason you all think Dave hasn't written it into any sets since? I love this song, so it's unfathomable to me.

Let You Down is not a very well-liked song by the band. I'm pretty sure Dave hates it. Hell, someone brought a "Let You Down" sign to Tampa last year, and when Dave spotted it, he just laughed and said, "You will be let down."

I voted never...b/c I semi-remember someone's conversation with Dave in which he said the song was too personal or something.

I'd never say never on any song, but this one is pretty unlikely, at this point. But, you never know.

If Dave cared about playing it, it
Would have happened already. Why would dave want to express feelings of letting someone down? I know I
    Wouldn't...

Maybe eventually, maybe. But I definitely seem to remember Dave saying he didn't like this song and that it was too personal. So maybe not.

    It'll get played eventually.

It popping up this year wouldn't surprise me.

Actually, didn't Dave once say ""I have no lid upon my head / but if I did / you could look inside and see what's on my mind" was one of his favorite lyrics? I would say in an interview between 99-2002 era he said this (obviously never played it then).

I could be making this up but I really don't think I am.

And to echo others, it wouldn't surprise me if it showed up this tour.

Yeah I remember that--it was from one of the Charlie Rose interviews.

This is my understanding as well. However, I thought this was from a convo he had with a fan last year, not an interview.

I don't put anything past this band, but I have deep doubts given all the other songs they've chosen to bring back over the years.

I think this might be permanently on the shelf like Spotlight.

I've never understood why Dave has no problem playing Halloween but says Let You Down is "too personal." I would think Halloween would generate more negative emotions

Not buying that it's too personal when we still hear songs like IBYU, halloween, and grace is gone that sound very personal to me

Well in Halloween the other person fucked up, so maybe rocking it out is a little therapeutic. However, I don't think he wants to sing about how he fucked up and let someone down.

Even if it were too personal, I feel that as a musician, and even as a person, you eventually move on and say "fuck it...it's just a song". A share the same opinion many others on this thread do- anything could happen. I still firmly believe it's only a matter of time until he teases Spotlight ;c) (Darien Lake....?!)
