Harrison Ford's Injury May Have Completely Screwed Up Episode VII

" The potential news comes from the UK-based site Jedi News, who says sources told them of an emergency meeting ay Pinewood Studios this morning to discuss how to handle Ford's sudden unavailability. Since Ford's Han Solo is reportedly the film's lead, the only way to make its Christmas 2015 release date — which Disney has refused to move before — is to rewrite Ford's scenes, or rewrite the script entirely.

Assuming Ford is indeed the main character (which is itself a no-brainer), I honestly don't know how this rumor isn't true. Unless the script has Han Solo sitting down most of the time, something will need to change to accommodate Ford's injury, and that's either the script or the release date. The question is whether Disney would rather take the gamble on a Harrison Ford-light Episode VII movie in December '15, or whether Disney's shareholders and quarterly profit predictions and whatnot have the capacity to be patient.

If I had to guess, I think they'll wait; I think Disney will feel much more comfortable keeping Harrison Ford the movie's main star, no offense to Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. I also think the side-benefit of giving the film another six months of production time is better than trying force a full script rewrite at this point — as it stands, the movie is only 18 months away...
"
if Han Solo is the lead, there's a 100% chance that Han Solo dies in Episode VII

Maybe referring back to ROTJ production when Ford requested/suggested Solo be killed for more dramatic effect?

he's wanted to be killed off since the 1st (or 2nd) episode.

the setup for all Star Wars is "X dies, and revenge ensues" (Obi, Qui).

setup for VII will be Han dies, revenge ensues.

yea I mean as soon as I heard that Han was going to have such a primary role in episode 7, it seemed very likely that means he'd bite it at the end of the film. But given what we know of the extra time that they'd already taken before to get the script into proper shape before shooting, I think doing another major rewrite now just because of this injury would be a mistake. Simply push the release back to the next summer (and get to continue the tradition of having every SW movie open in May)

Han Solo was supposed to be killed off in Return of the Jedi but George Lucas ended up changing it.

From a marketing standpoint that's one of the greatest things they could do is to release it on that day.

Did anyone else hear about the supposed leak from a few days ago of more info of what the plot was going to be for this? I mean the most basic idea of it being Han is doing a galaxy-wide search for a missing Luke had already been around for quite awhile, but this latest one was saying that two of the newer, younger characters find Luke's severed hand -- still holding the lightsaber -- on Tattooine and they initiate a look for him to return it. God help us if this is actually the truth Hell putting aside what would be the biggest coincidence of all time that it lands on Luke's home planet of all possibilities, and that it wouldn't have rotted, but also remember said dismemberment happened at the end of ESB. Luke had use of another lightsaber all thru ROTJ, so I doubt it would be all that important to get this one back to him 3 decades later.

    Sounds like a shitty premise.

The Han part could be true since they have to push back the release date because of ford's old ass bones.

I heard this to, but it wasn't said if it was his actual hand or his mechanical hand. If it's been there 30 years, it could be his mechanical hand.

my parents got me a comic book back in the 90's, it was a pretty dark-themed issue where Han was doing a galaxy-wide search for Luke because he heard Luke was in the midst of turning to the Dark Side

Exactly. He lost his mechanical hand at the end of ROTJ. How it survived the second Death Star exploding is another story.

well no, they're talking about the hand that was severed at the end of his fight with Vader at the end of Empire. That was his normal human hand, hence open to decaying.

My gut tells me I'm going to bitch a lot about his involvement and still go see it anyway.

I don't believe it was leaked either way, people just assumed it was that one.

Also same with it landing on tattoine.

Pretty sure Vader lost his hand at the end of Jedi, not Luke. Hence that awesome realization after Luke chopped his fathers hand off, saw wires sticking out and then looked at his own mechanical hand. It's the crossroads, does he follow in his fathers footsteps and turn to the dark side or does he choose the way of the Jedi.
