Re: Spinoff: Do you tip housekeepers at hotel?
At low end corporate deals (Motel 6, Days Inn, HoJo, etc.) no, I do not tip. Most of the time the room is not clean when I check in. If it is, and the maid did something for me, like extra towels, etc., or I stay more than a night, I do tip like $5.
At upmarket places, I tip consistently.
In either case, they are wage slaves but, to be fair, they are paid at least minimum.
In Vegas someone in our suite puked all over the place, like from the hallway to the bathroom. We made him tip the cleaning crew (yup, there were like 5 people there) $100. Nobody should have to clean that shit up except the one who dealt it, but he was a rich, spoiled fuck. When they all got $20s, it seemed to perk their day up a little.
EDIT: My grandfather used to leave loose change around, but he knew the exact amount. On long stays, if the change was still there, he would always tip 10x whatever the change was, usually about 10 bucks, leaving a note and thanking them for their honesty. In most cases, however, the change would be gone.
