Boyd...where is he???

I know this has been discussed in the past but I had high hopes with last night's show. I just listened to a lot of last night's show and I can barely hear him anywhere. Big Eyed Fish doesn't have the great opening lick that he does, He's not even on Mercy, listening to You Never Know and can't hear him at all, aside from his solo on Crush I don't hear him, I think I heard him for about 2 seconds on Grace is Gone during the actual verses and choruses (he used to be so present in that song) now he just has a little mini solo at the end. So unfortunate. Boyd is such an intregal part to the DMB sound and he just seems to have dropped out for some reason. Very sad to me that he just doesn't seem to be much of the DMB sound anymore. Back in the day Boyd would play on anything and I was really hoping that Lillywhite was going to bring him back. Just can't be DMB without Boyd. Maybe it's the recording? But it's a damn good recording so I doubt that. If he IS playing then they need to get their shit together and turn him up. Really hoping we got the return of Boyd in 2012. Here's to hoping we get him back.

Based on the videos I've seen from last night, BT played on all of those songs you mentioned. He hasn't gone anywhere. If anything, based on the studio version of Gaucho we all got yesterday, I'd say he's more present than he has been in a while.

Boyd's "absence" is just another example of the Band doing something that they want to do with their sound. Just like Tim being so loud. If they wanted Boyd to be more prominent, he would be. Whether we like it or not, there is a reason why Boyd is not as predominant as he once was. Maybe it's his choice? Or MAYBE he just got so fed up with the fans complaining that he is constantly out of tune that he decided he would just back off and be a background player.

I don't understand some of the comments around here. A lot of y'all complain about how Boyd sounds during shows, and then complain when you can't hear him playing. Which is it? Does he sound awesome live and you want him back? Or is he always out of tune and you're glad you can't hear him. OR is he always out of tune and you want him back?

I am pleased with studio Gaucho and hope that is the same with the whole album. I stand corrected with Mercy. Just watched the video from the put and Boyd is really playing away while Dave starts on the piano...however you can hear any of it...I don't know, maybe it's the recording? I doubt that though, it's stellar. Or maybe it's just DMBs sound crew. But if he's playing he can't be heard and that needs to change.

1. They paid him for being there as a DMB member
2. They paid him for the whole tour
3. They allowed him to dress what he wants
4. He pretends to play and enjoy
5. Tim does the rest

And seriously - I'm with you OP. I tried to catch his playing, but he's nowhere. No more Grace solo, no more #41 solo. No Boyd on the new songs. Just Tim, Tim, Tim...

It's sad.

I thought he sounded great last night. He's not gonna shine every song. I thought he was particularly good on #41 and Funny the Way It Is as well as the new songs.

Was at the houston show and had a lot of questions the OP mentioned, boyd seemed like he was working on getting into it for the first few songs. I was disappointed in his lack of anything on Grace is Gone but thrilled to see him jump in on Crush. Dave and Tim clearly had a "whoa" face on when Boyd went back out to jam some more after he broke a string and swapped his violin (thought it was a broken string at least??).
