Don and Roger are the best characters. However I'm torn with this show because there's absolutely no character that I can really root for. They're all terrible human beings.
Sounds tits.

I love what seems to be happening for this upcoming season. It appears that, now that the British company owns Sterling/Cooper, there will be some big changes of style, staff, and ways of doing business. It'll be fun to see Don & co. squrim at the new ways they have to work.

On the personal side, Don is looking to get in deep shit. He's still doing his thing with cheating, even with a new baby on the way and seemingly dodging a bullet last season. I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to leave Betty.

One thing I did notice: Is Duck gone? I know he freaked out last season, but did they fire him because of that?

Also....they might've gone a little overboard on the gay thing last night. Not that there's anything wrong with that (Seinfeld), but 2 minutes of full-blown making out was pretty rough.

    Gonna be a great season.

Yeah last night was real good. There is plenty to cover in 1963 so I wonder how they will include it all yet stay on plot. Should be a good season.

Finally sat down to watch this show last night cause i hear all of this great stuff about it and the 1st scene i see is a bell boy and some other guy almost about to go at it untill a fire alarm was pulled. Whats the story behind that? Again never seen the show before and thats a weird scene to start off with.

    Re: Mad Men

Holy shit, what an episode. Did anybody else watch tonight? Don't even know where to begin, so much went on... so here is a Faulkner-esque stream of consciousness paragraph:

Sally's teacher is going to wind up being a 1963 version of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.. between the earlier episodes with the parent/teacher conference and the rambling, drunken late night phone call to Don, girl is a little crazy. Gosh I hope Betty doesn't end up banging that political adviser... I'll flip out. She's been acting so weird this season (even by Betty standards), and it's getting on my nerves to the point where she's almost not a sympathetic character at all anymore. I just want her to hug her daughter, because Sally is going to have some issues. And if Don hooks up with the teacher, there is no hope for Sally; she's going to be a handful at her current rate as a teenager in the late 60's/early 70's anyway, and that is certainly not going to help. I hate not having more Joan in these episodes, she's the best. I see Sterling or Cooper keeling over before the end of the season and Don breaking off and taking at least Joan, Pete, Peggy and the Hilton account with him. And finally: Peggy, Peggy, Peggy... DUCK!?

    This show is so good.

I saw a couple episodes from the first season. I take it that younger guy always being a douchebag but always being right anyway is a mainstay of the show?

I did like it, which is odd since I hated all the characters.

Yes, Pete is whiny and kind of annoying the majority of the time, it's a large part of his character. But every once in awhile he does something semi-redeeming that make you not totally hate him or root against him. It's sort of refreshing having a show full of totally flawed characters.. there definitely aren't any true good/bad guys on this show.

I watched about the first 7 episodes of the first season. For those of you who have seen every episode, is this show really better than LOST ?

Its a totally different type of show, so hard to compare the two.

Both are different, but both are considered dramas.

So far, it's still kicking ass. Like the past seasons, it's taken a few episodes to really get going. But right now, it's rolling. That scene with Don & Peggy and he chews her out deserves an Emmy. Period.

The build up in this season is going to pay off in an insane way here pretty soon. What are are we, halfway through? You know the last episode (maybe two) are going to revolve around the Kennedy assassination. Plus, the close-up of Roger's daughter's wedding invitations back in like episode one said her wedding is supposed be on November 23, the day after JFK. Whatever Matt Weiner is planning, it's going to be epic for this series. I can't wait to see how it all plays out with all the storylines this season. Betty/Don, Sally, Don/Sterling Cooper, Don/Roger, Peggy, Sal/his wife.. oh lordie, I can't wait.

You're right.. it's taking its time getting going, but the thing I love about this show is that you know some of what's looming ahead so it creates that viewer tension... it's such a great series. (Not to mention, I could stare at Jon Hamm without interruption for hours.)

No. If you DirecTV DVR ever has problems recording just press the red button on the front and it will reset the box(all recorded shows will be on the box, it like reboots it).

If it is just literally AMC that doesn't work...thats weird.

I lose a couple of channels every night around 9PM on my DVR receiver. The other 3 in my house all work fine. They've come to take a look at it, and everything seems to be aligned and hooked up right. I just record every showing and eventually I catch the whole episode.

    Good guess.

Its around the end of September in the season right now, as the Baptist Church bombing occurred in September of 63.

Gotta talk about tonight's episode, right? The look on Don's face when Betty said, "You know I know what's in this drawer"... geez. I was uncomfortable watching this episode from the time he walked in his house thinking no one was home until he woke up the next morning. Plus -- who wasn't expecting Miss Crazy Pants to storm into the house in the middle of the confession conversation? This episode was so tense, but it has been a long time coming.

Somewhat less huge considering everything else... so Joan's going to be a widow within the next 10 years, huh?
