Just saw WW and thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed the story line, some great characters, the interaction and chemistry between Diana and Steve Trevor was fantastic. But my god the CGI was astonishingly bad! I can't believe a movie in this day and age with the technology available and the kind of budget that was behind it would put out something that looked so incredibly cheesey and 2nd grade. It was noticeable within the first 10 mins of the movie when they're on the Amazon island training and the green country side and the hills were so ridiculously fake looking, it distracted from the rest of the scene. And it was noticeable time and time again throughout the rest of the movie and distracting every time. To be honest my favorite parts of this "action movie" were the parts where there wasn't any "action", it was when they were just acting. I watched Captain America Civil War last night where the CGI was amazing. After watching that last night and WW tonight the CGI and special effects are night and day. How can one movie get it so right and the other get it so wrong?

You're gonna cause a DC melt with this post, but the CGI difference is a budget issue. Marvel was willing to throw a lot of eggs into the Civil War basket because they knew they'd have a monster hit. WB didn't know what they were doing with the DCEU and kind of seeing what stuck.

I guarantee the Wonder Woman sequel will have a much larger budget and better CGI as a result. What matters more is they got the story right with Wonder Woman.

I thought the Themyscira scenes looked good, the CGI got iffy during the big CGI explosion finale but I find that to be true in most of these superhero movies with lots of CGI

The only time I truly had a gripe with the CGI was during the Amazonian/German beach scene, it was very choppy in parts and the way they superimposed the actresses' faces just seemed off.

For what it's worth, Themysciara is supposed to be other worldly so I didn't necessarily mind how over the top lush and exotic it looked, the quality of the CGI seemed fine though.

I'm not a Marvel or a DC fanboy by any stretch. There's been plenty of the Marvel movies I thought sucked and were well below par. And after months of BvS being trashed in the media I saw it and enjoyed it quite a bit. So I feel I'm able to watch these films with a unbiased eye, and to me in 2017 if you are going to see one of these DC or Marvel movies you should have the same high expectations as far as production quality goes. Regardless if what is being made is the first installment or the 3rd, that's no excuse. And in this movie the CGI at times looked like something from a TV show from 15 yrs ago. To me, that's unacceptable in this day and age.

Was the CGI really that bad? I must have been wrapped up in the story and not paying attention, but I didn't remember the CGI standing out as bad. To me, most CGI looks the same anymore. None of it is truly mind bending. I can't remember the last movie I saw that made my jaw drop in the way a movie like Jurassic Park did. Although I was pretty impressed with what they did with young Tony Stark in Civil War, and Tarkin in Rogue One. I wish more movies were made with practical effects. When you see a scene done practically, like a suspended plane in mid-air in the opening Dark Knight Rises sequence, it adds a whole other layer of excitement and intensity to the scene. But nowadays these movies have to be pumped out so quickly, and in the end the most dollars saved means more money for the production companies, so everything gets a quick CGI touch up.

I was pretty ambivalent to Affleck's performance. I have no ties to wanting to see him retain the role, but I am very curious as to how DC would approach this, if true. It's pretty amazing that Marvel has kept the band together (minus Norton to Ruffalo, a much smaller-profile recast compared to Batman), so there's no real standard practice for this in the new world of shared universes.

Do they recast Bruce Wayne, or try to pull off some sort of succession with someone else taking over Batman's mantle? I can't imagine they would want to drop Bruce Wayne as early into the universe as they are.

Well, there have been times that Bruce had to sit out and someone else assumed the Batman role in the comics. So it wouldn't be unheard of, they could pretty easily do it.

Right... that happened in the comics after years and years and years of Bruce Wayne being Batman. It's a bit of a different ballgame with the movies, when the general audience is much much larger and only knows Bruce Wayne as Batman. That's not to say they couldn't tell a great story from a critical standpoint about someone else taking up the mantle, but there could be questions about if it is the smartest move commercially for them as they move forward in the franchise.
