High population density and little competition in the state of Ohio.

I wouldn't go that far. They have for the past few seasons. I can't discount any great football player wanting to go to a proven powerhouse. But I find it hard to account for their terrific success on the recruiting trail in basketball that seemingly sprouted from nowhere.

its not unheard of, but drawing away Indianas top 2 recruits away from Indiana is just odd

The b-ball program certianly took some years to play catch up, but with a professional quality arena and a growing desire for a winning b-ball team in OSU, it won't be long until Thad Matta has the Buckeye b-ball team in the Top 25 year after year. He's already pulled in another Top 5 recruiting class to follow up the Thad Five

Like I said, it helps to have top notch facilities, great coaches, an amazing campus and a hungry fanbase.

Columbus, and the campus area, offers an amazing college experience. OSU has what it needs to attract any recruit from anywhere. It was just a matter of really dedicated efforts to improve the b-ball program.

I hope this is what happens in Chapel Hill with Butch Davis. Playing for a national championship within 3 years might be a little out of reach though.

    He is doing his best.

I say if we win these last 3 and become bowl eligible, it will be HUGE for recruiting.

We already have a nice class shaping up. Add that with the freshman and sophs we already have.

Once every player on the roster is a Butch recruit, we will be ranked in the top 15. Guaranteed.

Ohio State isn't the only school in the country with great facilities, coaching, and campus life. Most D1 schools are great in all aspects.

Of course it isn't the only school that fits that description, but what can I say, it's the intangibles of Ohio State.

i'm hoping for OSU's sake they don't make the BCS title game again. although it couldn't be much worse than last year, i don't see them beating anyone in the top 5.

If there's one reason, here it is:

A possible commit looks at all the "powerhouses" - ND, USC, FLA, MICH, OKLA, etc for football and KU, DUKE, AZ, UCLA, FLA, IU, etc for basketball.

BUT - then they see OSU, and the difference is that it's THEE Ohio State University. BAM!! there ya go...
