no mention of bush? heh. I liked their first album at least. early 90s.

doesnt compare to those we've lost from grunge, but is on the list.

and supposedly at the last place Prince played, too. Not sure if true.

This news was sad enough but to hear it's a possible suicide is even worst.

Superunknown was one of my favorite albums from the 90's (even if Black Hole sun was an overrated terrible song). I'll have the beats of Spoonman in my head all day.

See to me there are many bands who rode that initial wave and were thrown into the grunge genre.

Bush isn't grunge but they're still amazing. Never liked the pumpkins and corgan is his biggest fan.

I'd put them more in the "copycat" category, rather than the Seattle grunge scene.

Bummer news. I haven't listened to his work in a long time, but I was a Soundgarden fan at one point. So sad to hear this. Interested to see what kind of tribute Pearl Jam may do at some point. Eddie will most definitely pay tribute on his solo tour I imagine.

Wow that's one of the worst takes I've ever heard, and I'm a pretty avid sports fan so that's saying something.

Back to back shows at Fox Theater, Atlanta, GA.

Prince liked doing those back to back three hour shows, crazy.

Bush is great, but I think would be considered post-grunge - debut wasn't til 1994. I hate calling them post-grunge because I think that term is often reserved for bands I think are bad, like Creed and Nickelback, and I like Bush a lot. Probably belongs in the same category as Foo Fighters.

Black Hole Sun is not a terrible song but I was never a fan. I think the insane amount of overkill on the radio was the main factor in my dislike.

Yeah, BHS was over-played, not over-rated or terrible.

The 5.1 mix of Superunknown in 2014 allowed for someone to rip just the centre channel containing mostly vocals, check it out on YT - one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time no doubt.

Listened to "Wooden Jesus" and "Pushin' Forward Back" from TOTD in the car this morning on the way to work, way too loud, fucking amazing album.

Figured it would be unpopular. I wore that CD out in the 90's yet always skipped that song. Just not a fan. I have a few not so popular takes in music most would disagree with. What can you do.

Overplayed I can get, but that doesn't make a song terrible.

Personally, I've never understood how someone could dislike a song strictly based on radio overkill. Like, if you like the song what does it matter?

I didn't say the song was terrible. The song never really struck a chord with me and the overplay on the radio caused me to detest hearing it. My stance on the song has softened over the years but it's still not one of my favorite Soundgarden songs. I certainly wouldn't add it to a 90's playlist.

Geez, this is just a terrible loss. Legendary voice.

I saw them play in Memphis not even two weeks ago. I remember having to choose between seeing all of Sturgill Simpson's set and missing half of Soundgarden or only seeing about 45 min of Sturgill and getting all of SG's set. I had this huge feeling that this was my only chance to ever see SG and I'd never have another chance to see them. Weirdest premonition of my life.

Soundgarden was amazing. Chris was hitting notes that in that iconic scream/wail of his. It was a great show. So very grateful I got the chance to see one of his final shows.

    RIP Legend

Good call. Maybe that was part of it because there was so many good songs on that CD yet that one was played a lot. I do remember thinking that Video was always on which likely added to it's popularity. I do, though, change Lithium channel if it comes on still, today.

I mean, the guy is an Islanders fan....what did you all expect!

Seriously though, I love BHS. It may have been overplayed, but it is what introduced me to SG's music. So that is not a bad thing in my book.

I am pretty bummed. I always feel so uncomfortable when I hear of someone taking their own life in a suicide.

I remember one summer back in the day I'd be over at the same kid's house almost daily just fucking around and watching MTV and Black Hole Sun, Just A Girl by No Doubt, and Mary Jane's Last Dance were pretty much all that was played over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

It was very interesting watching Black Hole Sun followed by Just A Girl.

Wife and I were dating when BHS was a single. It was my wife's favorite song at the time, I remember mine being Vaseline. Both got a shit ton of airplay.
Was more of an AIC and STP fan, but always thought Cornell was a talented likeable guy. Sad all these guys went too young.

    RIP

That video is what got me into music videos. On top of that the song is just so damn good. The acoustic versions are fanastic, really shows of his voice.

As much as I liked Soundgarden, I was pretty blown away by how great his last solo album was.

His voice with stripped down instrumentals is just more powerful, in my opinion.
