What is Dave singing - Funny the Way It Is

In the second "standing on the bridge" - the part that closes the song - Dave sings something in the background that I can't make out and doesn't show up in any lyrics I've seen. It comes in around 4:06. Anyone know what he's saying?

Skip to about 6:35 in and he explains what it is, just gibberish that made the record and Rashawn and Carter started doing live as well.

Yep it was just Dave messing around during a take and singing it all really weirdly. Cavallo and the engineer ended up loving it and put it on the record, Carter and Rashawn surprised Dave by singing it on stage.

It does sound very cool. It's almost a disappointment to hear they're not really singing anything because it really adds punch to that final bridge as the song closes.

if it adds punch anyway, why does it matter that it isn't really anything but sounds? Punch added is punch added. And if we knew the actual words, I'm sure some would just bitch about the bad lyric writing and piss and moan all over the place.

i had to go back and listen to it. i never noticed the sound specifically, but I love the harmonizing line it carries down now that I notice it.
It's totally something dave would do. awesome.

This happened by accident when I was comparing the April Sessions mix with the released one.

Did you happen to come up with any other cool stuff like that when you were comparing the two versions of the album? I remember reading your in-depth comparisons and thought they were interesting...did any of the other ones produce anything cool or worth listening to like that?

I don't remember anything as interesting as what happened to "Funny the Way It Is". I was inverting the April Sessions mixes and applying them over the released mix. But it's a pain in the ass to sync both tracks perfectly (that's the only way an inverted wav can cancel the other). You have to line up both tracks as closely as possible (looking at the waveforms), then get a spike, zoom in all the way through and try to make both peaks line up with each other.

Also when I was doing it, I was using the 128kbps AAC April Sessions and a 96kbps MP3 version of the album (taken from an internet stream), except for Funny and Shake Me. I should probably go back and try to line up all tracks using the original CD now.

In theory, let's say they didn't touch the (vocals+acoustic guitar) mix on "You and Me" from the April Sessions before the overdubs, if you mix the finished version with and inverted April Session version, what you could get would be isolated overdubs (elec piano, synth strings, bridge vocals). This would eliminate Dave's vocals and acoustic guitars (which is all we have on the April Session).
