Although DMB doesn't necessarily have tremendous lasting sales power, their music moves off the shelves...eventually.

If the album is nominated for AOTY, they get a slot to perform on the Grammys which will help sell. Then, if they win awards and get them on screen, additional sales.

Maybe if you mean "go platinum soon." It'll be platinum by then end of 2009 regardless.

I wonder if it'll get a grammy nod, especially with last year's Roi fiasco.

until june, DMB was everywhere you looked but almost as soon as the album was released all the advertising disappeared except on fuse. The FTWII video was only meh, they could have picked a more distinct lead-off single. As soon as it debuted, it was like the ad company was already over it.

The tour in Europe might have hurt a little, but with Why I Am out i'm sure it'll pick up again.

Agree this will hit 1M by the close of '09

It is VERY close right now. In the nominations allowed for 10 spots, they would have it 100%. I believe the boys are in a 3 way tie with U2, and Bruce right now.

Picking singles has always been odd from the folks at RCA. Funny, is not the strong song. Why they didn't release Shake Me is a mystery. American baby was not the best call to release, though I'm sure there was some psuedo patriotic vibe (incorrect if they had listend to the actual song at RCA) that the label hoped for. WOuld it not have been better to put something like Dream Girl out first or even You Might Die Trying (which is the one that has lasted) or even Bayou. So Right should have been a single. Grey Street should have gone first not Where Are You Going. Stay would have been better first than DDTW. So Much instead of Too Much.

I don't know. I am puzzled by singles that the lable releases. And I think it must impact things, at least to potential new fans.

This albums singles should have been/should be: SHake Me Like A Monkey, Why I am, You And Me. I think that would have been far better.

Where Are You Going was a monster.

apparently there are categories for like packaging and stuff too. so more than likely they'll get a nom for the album artwork too. in a thread a while back they had everything listed. there were like 7 categories that DMB could be nominated for.

i don't get it either. Shake Me would have been a great single. it does exactly what Dave said, it slaps you in the face and says "im here". people would have heard that and shit their pants. when 2 of my friends heard Shake Me for the first time, their jaws dropped. Funny wasn't a bad single, but i don't understand why it wasn't Shake Me instead.

I would not be surprised to see at least one grammy nomination. Especially with the fuck up from last year...that was just an embarassment to the academy.

I agree. Plus look at Crash the idea that #41 and Say Goodbye weren't singles baffles me when you consider how much people like them. Especially #41, there would have been this whole buzz about how they released a song with such an unorthodox title. I think it would have been great.

Also Old Dirt Hill. I know it's not everyone's favorite on these boards but like So Right, I think it really works as a radio single.

Really? I think the album version is garbage. It sounds like the Backstreet Boys guested on vocals.... Which by todays radio standards may mean it would have been a hit. So I guess you might be right.

We won't know what they were submitted for (even before nominations are announced) until sometime this fall. Probably in October.

They could get best packaging for the deluxe set.
    Rob could get best producer
They will probably get Best Rock album
    Best Rock song
    Something with vocals
and maybe Album Of THe Year

I hope they still release Monkey, but I highly doubt it.

Why I Am is already doing stellar on radio. You & Me is next and if that goes well, we should get 1 more single.

I think that we should give the album as gifts to friends between now and the holiday season, keep the album selling, and maybe they willl get smart and release a 4th single - Shake Me - and then we would see a new spike in sales from new fans.
Anyone remember Sting's 1999 album Brand New Day? It was out almost a year before the single Desert Rose was released (and used in a Jaguar commercial). ANd suddenly the album was a huge hit. It sold well when it came out but died off fast and was written off. Then BAM! Out of nowhere it got new life. Why? Because of the best song on the album making its way to new ears. Shake me could be like that for DMB. I honestly think it could.

    So.... RCA - wise up!

I agree. Shake ME has potential to be a monster hit. so do many other songs. You & Me should do awesome on TRiple A just like Funny did and Why I Am is doing right now. It should also be able to crossover to Hot Ac and be a big crossover hit

I think it's looking like this right now, for the 5 albums nominated.

    Swift
    U2
    Bruce
    DMB
    Eminem

Green Day could sneak in there though.

    platinum isnt 1,000,000 sold.

its 1,000,000 shipped. this album is alot closer than you think to being certified platinum, if it hasnt already shipped 1,000,000. the RIAA is just fucking slow about it. the album was probably technically "gold" before the street date even hit, like most big albums are.

Its because their songs are cross-format. That Use Somebody song is on lite rock for fuck's sake.

You and Me has the best chance of really having the album take off again. Its the perfect cross-format song.

Because Shake Me is limiting. What stations would that song be played on? Rock? Maybe. Indie Rock probably, but nothing with saturation.

Funny, while not a better DMB song than Shake Me, was by far the better marketing decision.
