Re: Weightlifting

ok... so after reading several posts I'll weigh in...

IMO you can, although it's very difficult, gain muscle/strength and lose fat. The key here is you must already been at a BF% and have some muscle mass in the first place to actually see the changes in a time period that you can monitor results and not get frustrated that it's "not working", and it's going to be a very slow process. You must know which routines works for your muscles and have you diet in check perfectly in order to do so and know many calories you need each day depending on what your exercise needs and calorie expenditure is. Most people do this through carb manipulation so that you are depleting and refilling your glycogen and shifting your system so that you burn fat on your low carb days and then replenish your muscles enough with a high carb day to do several more low carb/fat burning days and repeat. If done correctly, eventually your weight shouldn't change after you have lost sufficient BF%, but your body composition will and it's all about finding the sweet spot in calories/macros for you and having the right base to start off with.

Like I mentioned it's a very slow process and some find it easier to just bulk then cut while keeping protein high to minimize muscle loss. If done correctly I think, you can then get down to a BF and lean mass weight that you're satisfied with then start the program above so that you continue to gain lean muscle slowly while keeping your BF% low which would be gaining muscle while "losing" fat.

my 2 cents...

ah yes, the illusion that you're putting on muscle because you've lost enough BF to see more of it

with that said... you can get stronger without putting on a lot of muscle mass, but not at an extreme calorie deficit which is what most do when they are cutting. If you are doing a slow cut or doing sorta of the routine I described above then you can increase strength while losing BF% but like I said it's going to be a very slow process I think.

Lastly, the easiest way to gain muscle mass while losing BF is through chemical enhancement...

It's extremely doable then, but we all knew that...

Anybody ever use Hemavol or anything similar to it? I'm trying to get away from stims. I used to use NO, but if I ever had a workout late afternoon, I couldn't sleep. Over the past few months I've revamped my diet, counting cals and trying to hit daily macros as close as I can. I'm seeing really great results, but I'm still lacking in the gym in terms of energy.

I've tried some samples of it... noticed nothing...

people are raving about Driven sports Craze lately, but I've never tried it.

the last preworkout that I tried and liked was Nutrabolics Swollen in cap form. I had several samples and enjoyed it each time.

btw,"NO/nitric oxide" shouldn't affect your sleep, but the stims in most NO supplements probably will.

I should've specified, I meant NO Explode, which of course, has caffeine in it. I'll check those out though, thanks.

    Re: Weightlifting

Think I'm going to insert the Spartacus workout back into my regimen twice a week or so. I don't feel like I'm getting enough cardio when I just hit the bike twice a week for 20-30 minutes. Assuming I can pinpoint getting enough calories and toy with my carbs, I might do something like this.

    Monday - Chest/Shoulders
    Tuesday - Spartacus
    Wednesday - Back/Abs
    Thursday - Spartacus
    Friday - Arms
    Saturday - Chest/Shoulders
    Sunday - Rest

Hitting chest and shoulders heavy twice a week wouldn't hurt if those are my lacking areas, would it? Spartacus kills your legs and I'm pretty happy with where they are anyway, so I think throwing in a dedicated leg day would be overkill. Thoughts?

Dymatize's powders in general aren't spectacular. I've had the Rich Chocolate and the Chocolate PB and neither have made me even consider buying them again. Although pricier, Gaspari's Intrapro is still the best powder I've had.

It's where I go now. No complaints besides the typical packed after work problem. Dumbbells go up to 125 I believe at mine, maybe 120. You can deadlift and make noise when going heavy, go shoeless for whatever exercise if need be, bring in colored drinks if you wanted (I've heard of gyms not allowing colored drinks before. It's why I mention it).

The one I go to is very clean too.

Just checked on the locations and there's Oswego (where I'll be), Joliet, and Naperville. I assume you're thinking of the Oswego location. Yes, it is massive.

I'll be going around noon this week so hopefully I don't run into any problems. Glad to hear LA isn't strict about DL's and such. The last thing I need is a gym that restricts you from doing your norms.

Oh then it might have been Naperville too. I just know I see it on the way to NCC near Montgomery and figured that was it.

A 24 hour gym is opening in my town. Some commercial gym I don't think I've heard of and it will be interesting to see how it affects the gym I go to.

Yes finally, my gym was completely dead yesterday. Hopefully all of the resolutioners are done and it stays empty until the beginning of summer when all of the college kids are home.
