Never did raisins. I like mine really garlicky so we always get some good onions and garlic chopped up, sauteed, and then combined with the breadcrumb filling.

    Same.

Astonishing how often I see people bringing food back from somewhere or overhearing them say they're going out for lunch. I probably go out to lunch at work once a quarter for a mandatory department lunch.

    Yep.

As someone who is 100% German, I give my 100% approval of their food. Absolutely kills the crud they serve over at Essen Haus. If only they had boots, though...

Wife's grandparents arrived in ships from Italy. They call it sauce and live outside of Pittsburgh. NY and NJ people say gravy...it's weird.

It's a regional thing... I know full well many east coast/north east coast Italians call sauce gravy, but where I'm from it's just sauce.

I love listening to people I work with say they are trying to save money but I see them come back with Chipotle. One also is dead set on justifying that her spending $5 at the cafe is cheaper and more filling than getting a Lean Cusine. Don't buy Lean Cusines, .

They're called Lean Cuisines for a reason.

Wife does "smart ones" which I guess fill her up typically. When she's pregnant...she just crushes one as a snack and I think...well that couldn't have been that cheap.

Last night included my dad's homemade hot Italian sausage, and then some more Italian sausage and ground beef. Yum.

I'll get a jar of something from Home Goods as a starter base and then add my own tomatoes, and saute some onions and maybe peppers if that's what we are feeling.

I was raised in Colorado by an Italian father from NY and he said sauce.

My Italian grandma sounded like she put a T in the word. "You want some more sautce?"

I have leftovers for lunch generally every day. We accidentally make too much food generally every night. And I only live 5 minutes from work, so I go home.

Used to eat out at lunch almost every day when I lived 25 mins away tho.

Agreed. I never eat breakfast either.. I'll make a sandwich and snack on something else. That's all I need. I'll go out every once in awhile, but I'd say that only happens like 3 times a month.

I take leftovers maybe once a month, but most of lunches are expensed by me or a co-worker, so it's the money element that affects me. I just like to get out of the office for lunch.

I'm not going to lie and say that I'm an excellent representative of the Italian-Americans in Chicago but I don't know anyone that calls it gravy. I thought it was a NY/NJ thing because of The Soprano's.

Yeah, like I stated above, it's regional... east/north east coast. Has nothing to do with The Sopranos, it was referred to as such before the show.

I live 6hrs away from NYC and call it sauce.

Well, at home, you can make the eggs with cooking spray instead of butter. You can also control the portion of eggs you have at home. When you get eggs at a restaurant, they probably give you too many. And when it comes to bacon, you don't know what kind of cut you are getting at a restaurant. If you eat at home, you can guarantee to buy center cut which is generally better for you.

Well, "actual" Italians (whatever that means) call their marinara sauce "salsa", so they must clearly be wrong since we have a different name for it.

Restaurants might call it bolognese. Some Italian-American families call it gravy.

Why is anything called what it is? It's a regional/cultural thing. We've been calling it that in my family for as long as I can remember. My mom's parents are off the boat and my dad's mom is 2nd generation, is that "actually" Italian enough for you?

If I'm not including lunch, probably less than once a week on average.

And my grandparents are all Italian. We all call meat sauce gravy.
