The second paragraph you wrote is not at all what I took from the show.

My biggest question is what is real. The world we saw the whole time, the parallel universe introduced in the final season, or both. I think it's both. Which means no one is dead at all. Kind of.
Both... they all ended up dying somehow some way and then found each other before actually moving on.

    Re: LOST (the tv show)

barbo -- yea one of the key things that Christian tells Jack in that whole scene is "the concept of time doesn't really exist here". Like since their real world, practical deaths span over such a massive length of time, probably the easiest way to think of it is, whenever someone died earlier on in the whole saga (like Charlie, for instance, all the way back the end of season 3), imagine that like their spiritual consciousness instantly became frozen, alllllllllllll the way til whenever it is that the last one of the group had their death occur (like plenty of fans think that Hurley lived on for a couple hundred years at least as runner of the island, and mentoring Walt to eventually take over). But so that they basically all "woke up" in that sideways world at the same time so they could start interacting with each other, no matter when their literal death was. And then whenever one of them would experience a moment connected to the love of one or all of the other members of the group, they'd start getting flashes of their real island life, and remember who they were.

actually which reminds me, if you literally just did finish off the finale a little bit ago, you probably haven't seen this yet. Think of it as a post-credits scene, but it's like 12 minutes long. It's a little short film they produced that was included on the season 6 DVD set, and it takes place after the point of the end of the finale, where we see the Ajira plan taking off from the island with Sawyer and Kate and all them, and Jack dying still on the island.

Yeah that's on the DVD set I have (borrowed the whole series from a friend). I'll check it out for sure. Will hopefully clear stuff up even more.

    Re: LOST (the tv show)

oh so you mean you have the whole 6 series-in-one set? because if that's the one I'm thinking of, there's even an answer to something in the packaging of the DVD itself. I think it was like a small pamphlet at the bottom of the box or something like that, but basically it was meant to be like the journal of the captain of the Black Rock ship. Because one of the answers that Damon and Carlton had fully intended on answering before the end, but they never wound up finding what felt like a natural enough spot in the story during season 6 to include it, was that who was it shooting at the outrigger. If you remember when the group of Sawyer, Daniel, Julliete and Miles, etc were experiencing multiple flashes in a kind of short period of time, they found themselves rowing in one of the outriggers along the edge of the island when suddenly another small boat was firing at them with some kind of guns. well, it was a small crew of men from the Black Rock, that's what is revealed in the "journal". cause being told from the captain's POV, it was something like "a bizarre and terrifying event happened today where we saw another vessel on the water appear in front of us out of nowhere and then seemingly just vanished".

Desmond's arc is the most compelling of the entire series.

Desmond, Locke and Ben were the most compelling characters of the series for me. Ben was my favorite, followed by Locke.

In my political theory class we are reading a lot of John Locke and Jeremy Bentham, it makes me think of Lost.

Just started rewatching Season 1 on Blu-ray for the first time since the season finale aired...while the interactivity of the show while it was live has never been equalled by any other show I'm aware of, there really is so much more you notice now watching again when you know the entire story arc.

Plus the show looks absolutely amazing in 1080p right from the Pilot.

That's right around the Jack Flies A Kite ep - I think E9 is the episode where the ABC execs who wanted 8 seasons gave in to Cuse/Lindelof and said okay, 6 seasons is fine.

I'm pretty sure I read that the saw this episode and said "wtf?" and they said "if you want 8 seasons there will be lots more Jack Flies A Kite eps" and they gave in. At least that's my recollection of how they got to 6 seasons.

I think S3 stalls a little in the middle but it's very strong overall and the final episode is one of the best in the entire series...got chills just thinking about it.

The writer's strike had A LOT to do with the finality of the show and the schedule on which it ended.

    Yep, that's the one...Jack Flies A Kite!

    http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Stra...a_Strange_Land

    Here's the snippets from Cuse/Lindelof:

CC: The only place we ever got stuck was when we did things we regretted doing, not that they were narrative cul-de-sacs but like Nikki and Paulo. That was an example of a story idea where once we'd initiated it we regretted having done it. Or, on a smaller scale, when we told the story of Jack flashing back to Thailand and how he got his tattoos, we really regretted that we had decided that was a worthy flashback story. That story became really instrumental in convincing ABC that we needed to end the show. We were like, "Okay, this is what flashbacks look like now so it's probably a good idea if we figure out how much longer this show is actually going to go."

DL: The real exciting conversation happened in the middle of season three as we were begging ABC to end the show the idea that the narrative device was going to flip out of flashbacks and into flashforwards

CC: We did something that no show had never done before, which was that we negotiated an end date three years out. In network television that was an unheard-of proposition. Network television operates under the assumption that you just run a show until you run it into the ground. You run it until people don't care anymore. We did not want to do that. We decided we would rather walk away than operate in that model. Once we had the end date it really allowed us to plan out what it was that we were going to do for the remaining three years of the show.

Stranger in a Strange Land is bad but it's at least kinda funny in how bad it is. I mean, "the Sheriff," lol. There are a couple eps I dislike more for being just boring or frustrating. I think Fire + Water is my most hated episode

I've done 2 rewatches though not in a long time. 1 right after the last season and then a year or two later. I bet I forgot a lot of the show for sure.

Ya know it's funny but I've never really thought about it before now... but with the last few posts in here, as much as I've seen pretty much all of this show (oddly enough I've found myself suddenly watching old making-of vids from it on youtube lately), I don't think I've ever done a "full proper rewatch" in the time since its ended. In fact yea, I know I haven't. As in, watching from the pilot in exact order to the end. I have watched certain full seasons again all the way thru in order... and it may surprise you to know I think it's been mostly 4-6. In fact I think I've watched season 6 all the way thru at least 3 times since originally airing. And it's without doubt in my top 10 shows of all time, and I fancy myself quite the expert about it. But no, I've never done all 6 seasons in proper order.

edit: well and for instance the infamous "worst episode of the run", the Jack-gets-his-tattoos episode, I don't think I've ever watched that (most def not in full) a 2nd time, not since original airing. And I'll get in the ring for anyone who tries to claim the Nicki & Paulo flashback episode was the worst one. That is a VERY underrated ep, for characters which I ultimately say of course overall weren't very good. but that's a quality ep. It's a quality self-contained mystery. I'm sure I've said this in here multiple times, I always refer to it as the Forrest Gump episode of Lost. You see all these old classic events from a totally different POV.

    Re: LOST (the tv show)

wow, I just blocked my first ever fellow user on twitter. I'd noticed a tweet that Michael Emerson wrote earlier today about being wary of how, if you're only "acting" an especially heavy moment for a play, like crying or even kissing, that your BODY doesn't know that, it thinks it's real. But someone replied talking about how Lost never wound up giving an answer in the end for what the island was.

and I thought, hmm okay, I still love talking about the show, and feel like I've got a good handle on "the answers", so I'll be friendly and send a couple tweets to the guy trying to help him clear it up. Well apparently he's one of these people where even when you point out the conversation that Jack has with his dad in the funeral parlor in the finale that "everything that ever happened to you was real", etc, that, nope! everyone was obviously dead the entire time. And this is besides the fact that Jacob blatantly spells out to Richard in that beach scene exactly what the island is. I'm trying to tell this dude that like 3 times and it's like he's doing the equivalent of holding his hands over his years yelling "naaananaanaanaaa!!" Just kept repeating "no answer was given!!" must be a Trump voter.

thats what I get for trying to be helpful
