Good question and the answer is both yes and no. When it comes to lighthearted back and forth between users who often disagree in areas that span back ages we have no issue. However, for sports when it is plain to the staff that a person is intentionally trolling, insulting others, making threats or clearly trying to generate a reaction from another user that is not cool and the person doing it is getting the boot. For example, using the NHL thread:
If someone says "Sydney Crosby is overated, unless and not deserving of the C" is fine. Yeah, anyone with half a brain knows that is not true but I doubt it will result in all that much backlash.
However, if they say "I wish Sydney Crosby was in my town so I could snap his neck and then piss on his grave" it is not OK and the user will be banned for a 2 week minimum.
Make sense - differentiating between good natured rivalry with occasional stupid comments are vastly different than trolling, baiting, attacking opinions or making threats.
