She's been a red head since the 1960's. She's a well defined character, and the signature thing about her look is that she's a ginger. Most characters have defining hair color/style. I wouldn't expect a blonde Superman.
If I had to guess this is because of those e-mail leaks where it said Spider-Man had to be white and straight. So in response everyone was clamoring for Miles Morales to be the MCU Spider-Man. Obviously we got Tom Holland, but they've tried to have a more diverse cast.
I just hope she was cast because they liked how she played the part, and not because they're trying to be diverse. Nick Furry was always white, but Samuel L. Jackson was perfect in that role. They went with a black Iris West in the Flash TV show, and that's turned out ok. I just hope this is handled better than Johnny Storm, which was a waste of a good actor.
