i don't think it's that much of a gamble. once people get over the sticker shock, I guarantee there will be no shortage of those figuring out they can actually and want to swing it

As for the picture of the Phish one, not accurate at all. The Phish shows were billed as Riveria Maya but they played at a different location than the hard rock. The hard rock shows are played on the cement between the two sets of buildings and you have the ocean as a back drop. I believe the MMJ shows had about 2500 people and we had plenty of room and great views nightly, it was very easy.

Just my two cents but don't let the Phish pics scare you off, this is not the same thing.
This is wrong. One Big Holiday is ran by Cloud 9- this is put on by CID.

I went to Phish in January (and am going back January 2017). That event- and this one- are directly on the beach of the Barcelo Maya Resort. No official attendance numbers came out, but it was thought there was about 5,000 people there. I'm not sure I would call it "intimate" per se, but it was definitely amazing.

I'm not really a DMB fan anymore (haven't posted here in years), but I can't imagine spending this considerable coin on just D&T. I'd imagine the full band will be back there in February 2018 if this goes well.

I'll gladly answer any questions you guys have about it though.

    My Tips;

-You will want to stay at the barcelo, its so much more convenient to basically be staying on site, the other resorts should only be considered as a last resort

-buy the cheapest 4 person package at barcelo, and split it with friends, its the most affordable way to go ($1740pp)

-you will not need to spend a dime down there unless you want to. they pick you up at the airport, take you to the hotel, and people try and shove free food and drinks at you with every step. there are multiple restaurants and bars around the venue, all FREE

-its at best around 5000 people, on a gorgeous beach, with the band playing....nothing like it
    thank you for the tips!

The shows aren't at the Hard Rock, they're at Barcelo Maya Beach, which is the same place Phish played.

Hard Rock is just one of the hotels you can pick to stay at for this thing.

The concerts will take place at the Barceló Maya Beach, an incredible all-inclusive resort sitting on a mile-long stretch of white sandy beach, featuring breathtaking landscapes and pools scattered throughout the property.

Upon further review I do see that I missed that, my apologies if I caused confusion. Damn, I would really rethink this if I were consider going after the Phish fans chimed in, def does not sound like a small intimate place to see two guys with guitars, full band yes, but acoustic does not seem like it would work.

Yea, man, I'm with you on that. A GA crowd of 2-3k full of people who spend the day trying to drink their $5k worth doesn't sound like a good mix for a D&T show.

Just a quick shoutout to the Phish folk that can shed a little extra light on this event. I still don't plan on going but from what i've heard from them you can do it right if you're smart about it.

see they cant really do that. the resort itself is all inclusive, you get a wristband when you check in. they dont let people just wander on to the property to watch or even listen to the concert

I would suggest, if you are looking a cheaper alternative, just book rooms at the venue(Barcelo), and go! you can hear fine from the beach, right where they block it off, and you still get all the resort perks, just cant get near the stage.

sneaking onto the beach is doable, but there is security....mexican security....who will send you to mexican jail.....they will build a wall in your ass! not worth the risk IMO

last year i did the 4 person barcelo room (+ a day) for about $1800pp, this year we dropped 2 people so i am splitting the same room with a friend for $2300 each.

it's basically the best venue you could ever imagine for a concert. like i said though, i can't imagine 2 guys on acoustics could really rage quite as much as having the whole band there would.

I saw hotel staff tackle a dude first night there, he had no hotel wristband. you either have to be constantly on your guard, or book a room. I would not want to get caught doing something wrong in a foreign country....dont be a Lochte!

what us phish fans may lack in fashion, we make up for in simple comfort. these are neoprene socks designed for beach wear. the sand can be hot and rough on barefeet all day.

Wow. I thought it would be pricey but that's outrageous. 1 person starts at $3,600?? All the vacations I've taken in the last 2 years combined have been less than that. I thought the Gorge 3 day weekend was expensive. Sheesh.

its really not bad at all. yes, it's not cheap, but it's also not outside the realm of possibility. plus, there's always tax return time in the spring

I might be open to a room share with some cool people if anybody's looking. I'm still not 100%, but I'm going to consider it over the next couple days.

Added Bonus: I stayed in Playa last year so I know my way around that area a little bit.

I usually don't like calling it Playa since that just means beach in Spanish, but that's what most people seem to call it. I was feeling lazy lol
