Re: The Gorge Q&A and FAQs

What's the better choice? Gold or Terrace Camping, both appear to be the same price. Thanks in advance!

Gold camping is new for dmb this year. Liz found this info and posted in gorge thread...

Gold camping in a nutshell: gold camping is more for RVs really tents may also be pitched. Camping is on the Amphitheater side, closer to gates. No shuttle, short walk to the main gates instead. Not as beautiful as Terrace camping, no coffee and dounuts, it's all about location closer to the amphitheater. Camp site will be 50x25.

Apparently they do this for Watershed (someone commented as such), so now they're opening it up for DMB. Not sure what the advantage is over Terrace, except proximity.

I agree and appears no view which is a selling point of Terrace.

So I'm completely ignorant to how any of this works or what any of it is. Start with camping, is it like a bonnaroo set up? You park in a field and behind your cars where you set up? do you have assigned spots, or just fill in as you get there? Since I'm flying in, do I have to buy all my camping stuff in Washington and just leave it when I'm done or is it provided? I'm so new on this, sorry and thanks

Fill in as you get there and camp next/behind your car. A lot of people will put camping gear in a cooler and then check the cooler. If Southwest works for you you get 2 free checked bags and 2 carry ons. I usually buy a chair and a little table when I land and leave it for a local. Other than that I bring all my other gear.

Edit: you can also rent camping gear at REI. I have never done this but hear it sells out quick so I would rent asap.

We use the stuff every year, so we've got it down to a science, keeps us from having to rebuy or re-rent it every year. Plus, we use a lot of the stuff for other things during the year.

This is really helpful. Couple of questions: where do you plug in your string lights? And do you put the 48 qt cooler inside the duffle bag?

Terrace is very limited. I have never tried personally and don't use citi, but for the public sale they are gone in minutes. Consider it the Golden Ticket if that is what you are looking for.

Space bags people. We used space bags last year to vacuum pack our bedding - sheets, comforters, lawn blankets, and hoodies/light jackets. The space bags shrink to about 1/4 the size and we're able to neatly stack all of our items in checked baggage. Highly recommend it.

You didn't run into an issue of the bags being over weight? I know if we stuff our large rolling suitcase full of clothes it ends up well over the 50# limit? Can't imagine if I vacuumed everything and stuffed even more into it
