There are two different crowds at Blossom - the crowd on the lawn (typically drunk teenagers and early 20-somethings, a lot of illegal activity going on) and the crowd in the pavilion. The crowd in the pavilion is
much more kid friendly than the lawn.
I would absolutely suggest road tripping to Blossom for the show! I've worked there in the past as an usher and go to numerous shows there every year. The staff is well trained and keeps everything in line. They will let you have your fun but if you see something you don't like and alert one of them, they will take care of it immediately.
The venue itself is gorgeous. It is surrounded by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Here are links to a few good pictures:

I think a lot of people are making too much of an uproar about the GA seating. For Projekt Revolution at Blossom in 2007, they took down the first 10 rows for GA. There were hundreds of good seats still in the pavilion and I didn't hear anyone complain. Linkin Park put on a hell of a show that night!

Check out the pictures from above. I've been going to Blossom to see shows since 2005 and have loved every minute of it. The view from the lawn is much better than other venues I've been to (Riverbend, Star Lake etc.) but sitting in the pavilion is great. I'd like to sit in the pavilion for DMB but we usually go with a group of 10+ and it's easier for everyone to get lawn tickets.
