I like what I saw of them at Rothbury but I won't be buying an album anytime soon.

Do they allow taping? And where might I find some of that? Haven't seen them since 1999 but had a couple of shows on disc.

    Solid shit.

    Welcome to 1990?

Widespread has been awesome for longer than some of you have been alive. So have I, though.

Also, if this is the state of things around here, maybe I need to explicitly suggest everyone check out Galactic? They're another ridiculously kickass southern jam band.

galactic can put on a fun show, but they are inconsistent. i have seen them blow the roof off the place, and i have seen shows that were pretty damned flat.

they are nowhere even near the same league as panic.

and i wouldn't really call them a jamband - jazz/funk fusion (at their best), lately though they have brought in other elements (hip hop) that have taken away from what they do best.

There was someone in between McConnell & Herring, one of the bands guitar techs. Filled in for the 2006 summer tour, and it was probably the worst Widespread show that i had ever seen. I would like to see them with Herring, but I doubt it comes close to the early years.

there were a few shows in late summer 2006 where john keane played with him, but that was while george was still the lead - he was the second lead for a few shows there.

    lead guitarists for panic:

    houser>mcconnell>herring

Saw them 3rd row at Redrocks back in 2001. Just an unreal show! very talented band and one of the few jam bands I still dig. Ain't life grand is one of the best albums I've ever heard..

Pilgrim is an idiot, but then again, I've know that for awhile now. He knows how great Stanton Moore is, but he just doesn't want to admit it. I agree though that Galactic brings more of a funk/jazz sound...but that's what draws me to them. Funk is straight up fun. Anybody interested in Galactic needs to check out The Meters.

"Buy Light Fuse, Get Away. Now." Ditto.

hey, i said i thought galactic are good. i'm repeating myself here, but i've seen galactic shows that i thought were very good. it's too bad more of them haven't been like that. i've seen probably 7-8 galactic shows. curious, how many have you seen?

thanks for clueing me in on the meters too!

I wouldn't worry about how many times I've seen Galactic, but let's just say I've seen them in just New Orleans more than you've seen them in total. I wasn't saying you needed to check out the Meters...I'm sure you have heard them a few times. But if I had to guess, I bet you listen to panic, radiohead, and probably wilco all the time and do not mix in a little funk. It's good for you. You should try it. Let me know if you need some more recommendations.

Anybody hear about a beer bottle incident at N1 Myrtle? Heard JB laughed it off, but apparently Schools was pissed. Looks like a nice three night run...can't wait to hear Low Rider > Papa's Home > Drums > Hatfield > Papa's Home from tonight's show.

I just can't understand how throwing bottles at the band (irregardless of how shitfaced you are) ever seems like a good idea

WP just put a few old recordings of them at the georgia theatre on their website. definitely a good listen and a good little tribute to the theatre.
