The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO

This thing is fucking hilarious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHPgCdGhbng

I hadn't known until recently that Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pinkerton had been recording these podcasts for a number of years, so I suppose a lot of this material is a little old, but the idea of animate this stuff is absolute genius.

I have all the podcasts and audio books as well...some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. They just beat Pilkington into submission.

The animated versions are completely unbearable to watch though...

Holy shit, seriously?? I mean I'm sure I could get enjoyment out of just listening to the original podcasts, but I absolutely prefer to see them like this with the animation.

Well realize, you're not getting an entire podcast animated, that's not exactly how it works, there are 22 minute(ish) episodes on HBO where they take portions of the podcasts and animate them, there's been I think 10 so far, and you can find them on the usual bit torrent sites. thepiratebay.org is the main one I usually use.

Man this show has really hit its stride here in the 2nd season, the last several episodes have had me in tears laughing. Karl Pilkington is absolutely fucking brilliant.

Junior: I totally agree. I have to say tho, that I LOVE Stephen stories. The shit he told about being on vacation and losing his glasses/almost drowning in the ocean was awesome, as was the bit about him using his status to try to get into a nightclub. Oh my god, was I dying.

Seriously, all this material is several years old and I've heard it already so when they track it with goofy little cartoon characters I almost feel insulted...but I suppose to put it on HBO you have to have a picture...I would appreciate it much more if they had video'd the podcasts when they were created and we could see them in the studio...

On a side note I love An Idiot Abroad...that is all.

I had actually been somewhat disappointed in Season 2 until I watched last week's episode. It's been years since I laughed so hard.

This is (thankfully) FINALLY coming back on, this 3rd season is getting a later start than the last two years, s3 debuts on HBO this Friday, April 20th. I've been going back and watching most of the episodes of the first two seasons again lately, and howling all over again. And something kinda special happens at the very end of the s2 finale, Ricky makes Karl laugh for the very first time. It's weird to have been watching this animated character for so long don various expressions, but none of them laughter/happiness, then see it cracking up

also on a side note, I've had the full episodes of An Idiot Abroad s1 for awhile now, but I've finally been watching them more in depth, I can't believe I waited until now. Because even watching Karl without Ricky & Steve, watching/listening to him talk to the camera crew during these experiences is hysterical. There's something he says during the Peru episode, I swear to god I came an inch away from throwing up, I was laughing so hard.

I can see how if you've heard all of the material already, watching this show might seem redundant. Although, having said that, as I've indicated above I've watched these animated shows multiple times now and have laughed as hard every time. But in all fairness I'm an idiot

Well, I don't know for sure if they're literally still doing them today, but I know some of them are fairly recent, at least. Because while some of the material you'll see in an animated episode could be as many as 7-8 years old from when the podcast was recorded, but at the same time you'll hear them reference stuff in other sections that occurred as recently as 2010 or so, like they'll talk about a movie that came out not very long ago, etc.

and Brian's so right about Ricky's laugh. The moments (both in the podcasts and in the sit down interviews for An Idiot Abroad) when Karl says something so ridiculous that Ricky literally gets up and walks away he's laughing so hard.

On rare occasions. There's been talk that they will do another set of them, because they used to release them in sets of anywhere from 4-12 or so (I guessing I'd have to look up they exact numbers), but I haven't heard anything other then a few rumblings.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show. Sometimes it's hilarious, sometimes Ricky won't shut up and keeps interrupting everyone and just goes on tangents that aren't funny.

My biggest pet peeve, I hate when he does this. It was worse on the radio show. Because that was before he knew how much the world REALLY loved Karl. Some of the old radio shows and unlistenable to because he won't shut up and let Karl talk.

My favorites are when Steve and Karl go at each other. So great.
