Doctor Who (Russell T Davies/Steven Moffat)

I don't believe I've ever seen any chatter on here for this show, anybody else into the 2005 revival version? One of my younger friends who is an equally obsessive "House" fan, she got into DW via her roommates last year and wouldn't shut up about it, so I've finally taken the plunge, so far I'm up to about halfway thru series 3, which was David Tennant's 2nd series as The Doctor and Martha Jones as the companion.

I'll admit from all that I'd seen/known about it coming in, my biggest single fear was that it might be a bit too cheesy or campy for my tastes, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

And though obviously I'm still a good full 2 seasons away from the current team of Matt Smith and Karen Gillam, I can't wait because I know she's hot as hell

I prefer David Tennant to Matt Smith.

I still haven't gotten into Dr. Who...I should get around to that...evidently I'm missing alot. If I had a penny for every time that happened.

I've just finally seen "Blink", the 10th episode of series 3, and this was one of the best single pieces of science fiction storytelling I've ever seen. And one of the few to deal heavily with time travel where, I think, there were no real significant plot holes created. The Doctor's screen time is kept to a minimum, instead the star is an incredibly adorable Carey Mulligan a little while before she got much more acclaim (and I think maybe an Oscar nom?) for "An Education" in 2009.

Well I'm now I think 3 episodes into the 5th season. Matt Smith... I don't know, first of all I think he just looks... weird. But it's sorta so far feels like it's almost a different show, I'm guessing because this is the first season since the revival that they've got both a brand new Doctor and companion at the same time, so there's much less familiarity felt from the last season, to me anyway. When Eccleston switched over to Tennant, we still had Billie Piper. Having said that I've had a maaaaaaaaaajor crush on Karen Gillan since the moment I saw her.

But, Tennant definitely had a looser, almost sillier take on the role than Eccleston did, and Smith seems to have followed that line so far.

I enjoyed the current season with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. But to me, when I think of Doctor Who, Tom Baker comes to mind because he was the first one I ever saw on PBS late at night many years ago.

I love the relaunch. I love all the new Doctor's for different reasons, but Tennant was the best so far. I cannot wait for Season 6 to start airing on BBC America.

Well I'll be totally honest I don't really have any interest in going back and watching any of the pre-2005 Who, it just on the whole looks way too cheesy and real shoddy production.

Okay. And I'm sure with some help from the right people I could figure out how to do that, but hell we're so close to the normal premiere I'll just wait.

But yea I've got a friend who went to the live screening last week in NY with the cast (they left here in Philly around 5:30am and got in line at 9am, apparently the first person in line had been there since 4pm the previous day) and she was totally blown away by the episodes.

The shoddy production is what makes it cheesy. But it's the storytelling that can over come that. And there are a lot of episodes/serials that do.
