I don't think it's amazing. It's the fact that it offers multi-channel mixes of the album - that's why it's selling well.
The sales of NIN - Downward Spiral DualDisc were much higher than the sales of NIN - Downward Spiral SACD but that's only because the SACD was twice the price of the DualDisc.
If a disc is released in CD, DualDisc and DVD Audio I guarantee if the DD and DVD are the same price the DVD will sell more copies. The record companies aren't that stupid though.
When the right engineer is involved I think 5.1 mixes can be incredible. If the DualDisc is the only option for me to get one of my favourite artist's albums in multi-channel surround then, for it or against it, I'm buying the DualDisc.
That's why it's selling well.
EDIT - I've still had no issues at all with the three DualDiscs I own.
