Clay sums it up greatly. There is also a myriad of Easter eggs in The Collector scene alone

No sarcasm. Look at this guy.

Re: James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY For Marvel (8.1.14)

For the record I completely agree with clayj41's review. He was spot on with everything in his review. Took the words away from me. The more I think about it I really like it more than the Avengers. Starlord is Han Solo. Groot stole the show. Drax was incredible in his part. Fell in love with Gamora. Rocket was amazing (his character was on another level - great voice work by Cooper to make this character really come alive). All of the characters were incredibly three-dimensional.

The humor was amazing. There's two scenes where they really bring the feels and I'm not gonna lie my eyes were getting a little watery. The writers did an AMAZING job. LIke he said, believe the hype. I'm ready for more people to see it so I can freely discuss it. Ronan was one of the most sinister bad dudes ever. Might take my favorite villain other than Darth Vader (he can't be replaced). Like it's been said, the only negative was the post credit scene.

Speaking vaguely to avoid the need for a spoiler:

I was on the lookout for any references to him I could find. I didn't catch it either, but the theater was admittedly in a stir over the end-credits scene. I'll probably be watching it again as soon as Sunday and pay closer attention. He almost has to show up at some point.

Just got back. really fun movie overall, though frankly I feel like I wanna punch somebody after waiting the entire credits for THAT stinger. Seriously? That actually makes what they decided to do for the stinger on Iron Man 3 look like a good idea.

btw I could totally see why Michael Rooker was in this, the character of Yondu already has a good 60-70% in common with Merle anyway

I LOVED the end credits scene. It makes perfect sense as a joke because it's a LucasFilm property. It was Marvel trolling Disney.

I'd definitely say that by now, a full 2 days later, the credits stinger doesn't really bother me at all (and I've since read comments from Gunn assuring people it in no way points toward Howard being further used as a character). The fact is, yea at first Marvel actually kind of needed these button scenes to help drop the seeds for where they were headed with Phase 1, but obviously as was already the case with Iron Man 3, the timing won't always match up with a new release that they need that space to tease a real plot moment for the future. And since they've gotten to the point where they practically HAVE to do one for every movie because the fans expect it, sometimes they'll just use it for a joke.

though it was kinda cool to find out I was right with my first guess of who provided the voice for him.

Going to go see this late tonight in Atlanta. Three options, normal theatre, 3d, IMAX 3d? Thoughts? Worth the extra money or not really?

    If not, get sum

It's so easy to write something off when those are the genre benchmarks and you've become increasingly cynical, not only with age but also with how many times you've seen other supposed instant classics not live up to the hype.

Believe the hype. Marvel Studios has outdone itself. Its triumphant risk in turning such a relatively obscure property into the next billion dollar franchise transcends dollars and cents. A new generation of fandom has been created, and for the first time in a long time (maybe ever), I was enviously transported into the dark theater seat of a geeky 80s teenager watching cultural significance unfold on the screen before him.

Disclaimer: I've read Guardians of the Galaxy and followed their uproarious and page-turning exploits. The movie is a living, breathing comic book. It's the perfect embodiment of its absurd source material. It's the best adaptation ever in that sense. But it's not for everyone. Nothing is. The bevy of humor and pop cultural references scattered throughout the movie aren't confined to the silver screen. They also pop off the page. And they'll miss the mark for some. But they're right up my trivial alley.

Where do I begin? Star-Lord is Han Solo. He's Indiana Jones. His false bravado expertly disguises his heart of gold. So I guess Chris Pratt is Harrison Ford? He has this amazingly endearing presence that will define his expectedly illustrious film career. Rocket Racoon is a furious ferret with a Napoleon complex. But like the movie and its motley crew of a cast, he's got spunk. Groot grounds him like the tree that he is and steals every scene he's afforded. Gamora and Drax are muscle with funny bones. The villains, while generically motivated, are anything but ordinary. The effects are flat-out extraordinary. The writing will have you fist pumping one moment and reverently rolling your eyes the next.

And unlike most movies, the soundtrack enhances the entire experience. Songs were explicitly written into the script. They're plot points, not just background noise. Comedy, drama, romance, action…there's something for everybody and anybody. The galaxy depicted is diverse like that, why should its guardians be any different?

    ∞/10
This is all I have to say.

and Rocket really did indeed steal the entire fucking show. I admit, I never would've considered Bradley Cooper, but he knocked it outta the damn stadium.

The joke with the guy's prosthetic leg in the prison break, then sort of call back to that with another guy's fake eyeball... I was in tears

There was plenty of laughter at a lot of things in my theater, but not a ton on his "It's real!!!" line about the laugh, surely from overexposure in the trailer.

I saw this today not really knowing anything going into it. I liked it a lot. Chris Pratt is hilarious. The movie had a little bit of everything, and that villian was awesome in my opinion.

Saw it last night and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think it would be that good, somy expectations were definitely exceeded. Loved the John C. Reilly spot at the end. I was dying laughing but I was only one of a few in the whole theater who seemed to get it.

Overall, pretty good. Not the best movie I've ever seen but I was entertained for 2 hours on a boring Sunday night.
