The origami was meant to symbolize a brief but clear look at Frank and Claire's different outlook on life. It's clear that she has a greater heart (arguably) with her company, or at least did at one time. The point of the origami was that when Frank asks her about it, he asks her about "the little statues" she had made. He also didn't show any interest. Just what I think is one of a series of moments that sets the two apart (while smoking, which ironically is their time they spend together - toxic, eh?) while together/being affectionate.
I loved the show. I also have a job that, let's say would allow me regular access to people like Russo or Underwood, so it hits home a bit closer for me. The acting was phenomenal, and there were brief parts of the season that were not as great as others, but hell, we're judging an entire season.
Hold up that scrutiny to any show - west wing/sorkin - and you'll find the same (if not worse) lulls. Personally, I'd give the show a solid A. Maybe I'm biased
