Also, didn't finish the Rangers came so was shocked to see them win. Most of the game they looked like they had no business winning that game. Habs have looked good most of this series. Price isn't getting any younger. Not old but you'd think the window might be starting to slowly close.

Yeah, I had the Hawks going to the SCF.

Edit; Shit - had them winning it all. Thought for sure I had the Pens winning.

    Ah well.

Anyone else sitting here thinking "Wow Subban and the Preds are already in round 2 and Weber and the Habs might be gone soon?" Obviously the Habs series isn't over but no way anyone would have called this so far.

MAF has played really well this series.

Although, as I said after Game 2, I'd like to see the D give up less shots. MAF has faced the most shots of any goalie so far these playoffs.

Obviously I am pretty happy with last night! Rangers found a way to win a huge road game and give themselves a huge chance to move on! I don't think it is all doom and gloom for the Habs though. If they find a way to win at MSG they will head home for a game 7 with all the momentum. So in no way is this series over yet. I really hope the Rangers close it out at MSG, but this has always felt like a 7 game series in the making.

Nope. As I just said above, the Rangers and Habs series is very close. I don't think anyone should be shocked if either team wins this series.

I am thinking "wow, the Preds are better than I thought." I have always thought that they got the better long term deal in that trade. I just thought it would take longer for them to break out.

Also, I think that the Preds/Hawks series was a mix of the Preds exceeding expectations, but also the Hawks just sucking for 4 games. I think round 2 will expose if the Preds are for real or not.

Even if the Rangers get by the Habs, all 3 opponents in the East are matchup nightmares for them.

Never underestimate the MAF effect though could easily take that series on goaltending.

RIght and I'm saying even if they'd won 6, instead of 3, I wouldn't be happy with 6 goals in 4 games. 3 goals is even worse. Obviously 3 cups in 6 years is impressive, absolutely.

If the Rangers beat the Habs, which is by no means assured, I do believe they would beat Ottawa (or potentially Boston) in round 2. The Sens are clearly more of a threat from what people expected of them. That said, the Bruins have basically played the entire series with 4 defense men and a huge lack of depth. Even with that, every game has been close. I would be surprised if the Rangers lost to the Sens in round 2. It would honestly surprise me more than the Rangers just losing the next two games in round 1.

OK, we can have the argument about the playoff system (again) but lets not say that's why they lost or they deserved better. It's not like in a 1-8 format CBJ would get to play Arizona or get a first round bye. In a 1-8 format (giving the Habs #2 bc of winning the div.) CBJ would be 4th playing the 5th seeded Rangers who are up 3-2 on the Habs. A total gimme right there, right? Then they say "oh and even if they got by Pit they'd get Washington in round 2." And guess what, if it was 1-8 and the top 4 advance, who does CBJ get in round 2? Oh the fucking Caps anyway. Would it be unfair then? Again, I see the arguments against the system, but lets not oversimplify this. If you are gonna argue about the format, actually look at what the matchups would be in that system first and the Rangers that much easier than the Pens? Jackets went 1-5 down the stretch, I'm not sure they get by anyone.

I can't stand the whining about the playoff format.

OMG they're going to make us play Pittsburgh, IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAAAAAAAAAIR

or.... OMG they're going to make us play Columbus and then Washington, IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAAAAAAAAAIR

Like you said, they'd get the caps in the next round anyway. And like you said, how easily would they have gotten passed NYR, TOR, or anyone else for that matter?

I've said before, if it's truly a broken system then it would be a problem out west.....

Agreed with all of the above posts. I actually like the format right now. I said it about a month ago, but if your goal is to win the Stanley cup, it doesn't matter when you play good teams. You will have play good teams eventually anyway. If your goal is to win a playoff series for fan morale, fine, complain about it...

I actually prefer to know early if my team is real! Last year the Pens were like "sorry, it's our year Rangers." I looked at it and said "okay, fair enough" and was able to move on pretty easily. Losing in late rounds is way harder to take. I love that we got Montreal to start. Bring it on ealry!

Final note: I called the Pens in 4. The Jackets should be happy they won a game. They were awful down the stretch and Torts is a joke. You can't expect to play shit hockey going into the playoffs and still beat the defending champions. Especially when you have an unstable human being as your fearless leader and coach.

Jackets went 1-5 down the stretch, I'm not sure they get by anyone.

    agree with both posts.

look at the NBA in the east. CLE as a 2, BOS as a 1. How's that going for BOS? Would BOS have an easier time with IND than CHI? maybe, but don't bitch is the point.

Hell, look at Chicago in the NHL. They got what the best team "deserved" in getting the lowest seed in the West...and they were swept. The "easier" team isn't always easier. There are no guarantees in this league and I love that about the first round.

agreed. playoffs shouldn't have guaranteed first round wins for the top seed, unless you're the NCAA that defeats the whole purpose of the playoffs.
