I guess that's not true though according to a 2014 interview with Lindelof:

edit: there seemed to be mixed articles about what the writers ultimately wanted the ending to be, and I stand by the fact that they never really knew what they wanted to do with it.
Sigh

They were not in purgatory for the entire series, for Christ's sake (not directed at you ).

Everything in the show that happened to them happened in their real lives. The Flash Sideways (which happened during the last season) was them joining together in the afterlife before moving on. So if somebody is really stuck in the purgatory idea it was only "purgatory" during season 6.

That was one of the main knocks on the finale, Christian's explanation. They laid it out plain and simple. That shot of the plane at the end had nothing to do with anything.

It was, lots of lore, canon, as well as great characters and story telling.

Anybody feel like continuing the conversation about LOST let's take it over to the LOST thread in the chat section - just like The Sopranos, I could talk about the show all day.

#2, you're right, they didn't ever know how long the show was going to be - there was nothing ever stated from the get go that the show was only going to be 4 seasons, nobody had any idea when the end game was going to be. The episode about Jack in the Philippines as well as the writers strike helped the production team to decide to end it after 6 seasons - especially because at that point in the series that had some semblance of an idea about where they were headed. They've all been quoted as saying that they didn't want the show to end up like the X-Files or Happy Days where it just goes on and on.
It was years ago that I read it, I can try to google for it in a bit. It was an interview with the Damon guy, not Abrams, if that helps. But I'll see if I can find it.

Had another Seinfeld moment this week.

Been going to this barber shop for a few years now. Never make an appointment, but Barber A had been doing my haircut almost every time. Recently went in on a day when A was on vacation, so Barber B cut it. I liked Barber B more, but don't have the guts to make an appointment with her in front of A. What do I do?!
