Yeah, I'm with TJ on this. Season 2 is excellent no doubt, but I unquestionably prefer Season 1. I feel it's closer to the spirit of the movie, starting with the more wintery setting as well as the story being smaller in scale. Feel like I had a much richer emotional investment in the Lester/Malvo relationship than anything I could remember from Season 2.

Bridge, both seasons are on Hulu. Just free-trial it and crank out Season 1 over the weekend then cancel. Not that I don't think it's worth buying...as far as I am concerned, I think it's fucking brilliant television.

I'd agree the first definitely felt more like the movie, but S2 was just more fun for me. I loved just about every second IIRC (I need to watch again before too long).

I felt like there were more intriguing characters. It felt like S1 was just Lester and Malvo.

Don't get me wrong, both seasons are great. But, if I had to pick one, I'd take S2.

PS: Nick Offerman's performance as Karl Weathers as limited in screen time as it was; that alone puts S2 over S1 for me.

S1E1 is crazy.

The whole show has been great, but yea, it really starts with a bang.

The entire series has been a celebration of the Coens with all kinds of nods to their other movies. Just figured the UFO stuff was a nod to The Man Who Wasn't There. Didn't really factor into either story much.

So many awesome things happened in Episode 4. I was already immensely enjoying the show up to that point, but that's when I knew I was watching something truly special.

Starting with the call back to the movie. But also what Lorne does at the grocery store. His minister shenanigans after he was arrested. And then finally, how the two hit men set up their fight to spend the night in jail so they'd get to Lester.

finished up S1 over the weekend. really picked up steam as it went along. I really liked how lester wasn't just a poor victim of circumstance

three quick questions on things that I may have missed:

- why does malvo give a shit about milos (oliver platt's character)? especially since there's no real payoff there

- are we to assume that malvo also worked over the residents of wherever he said he was a preacher?

- how did grimly not get in any trouble for killing malvo?
