Re: Philadelphia Eagles

well guys, looks like the eagles very well may have themselves a quarterback! I realize it was just the Browns, but I don't think you could ask for more from Wentz in his rookie debut, especially after playing 39 snaps in 1 preseason game, getting no reps with the starters, and only preparing to be the starting QB for 8 days.

Phrase I'm sick of most so far is "... even though it was the Browns." It's the first week of the season, and any pro defense is a huge test for a rookie whether you think the team is going to be good in December or not.

Wentz was good, regardless of he who he played yesterday. I was pleased to see that.

That's so true. The even more hilarious thing is that everyone kept saying "oh man, the speed of the game is so much different jumping from FCS to the NFL". Lol, he adjusted just fine to that.

Wentz did show some signs of adjustment needed, like the size of defensive linemen (seriously, a 6-5 QB shouldn't have passes batted down so frequently) and a few overthrows compensating for the speed change, but there were no glaring mistakes and that's the stuff we all wanna see. I'm so excited for his progression.

Going to the Packers game on Nov. 28 (MNF game).

It will be my first time at Lincoln. Any tips would be much appreciated. Likely will try to arrive around 4:30-5:00... Would love to set up a tailgate. Have no idea what lots are like/which are best/accessible?

    Thanks!

    Re: Philadelphia Eagles

not even really sure where to start, especially since many of these issues would be non-issues if we won...

    - dropped passes (again)...Howie needs to make a move
    - pedestrian play calling...in the first few games they threw downfield at least a couple times...now they won't throw a pass more than 7 yards in the air. It's no secret why these WR and RB screens aren't effective anymore, it's all they do
    - ISO Zach Ertz
    - back to play calling: behind the line swing pass on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter? Why??? You're in fg range, just run up the middle....and then why punt there? Sturgis already hit 2 from 55

I really think this one's on Doug, 100%. Carson had an ok game, but he was actually pretty much perfect when you realize he did exactly what he was asked to do. I'm not sure why they aren't throwing downfield at all, but it has to do with the WR's- no trust because of drops? no trust because they can't separate? no trust because none of them run great routes? Even with all of that, you still have to show that you're willing to throw the ball. Wentz goes 32/43 but for just 202 yards???

    ^ edit: ISO all TE's

we have 3 TEs who can catch (Celek can still make plays)...why aren't we using them at all???

and where are the Sproles wheel routes we saw earlier in the season? LBs can't cover him

UGH I'm just fucking tired of the lateral passes all fucking day

can we get this thread rolling a bit? rookie coach and qb and its been dead all season

what do you guys think we should do with Huff? I'm leaning toward suspension, possibly cutting him. I know the cutting seems harsh but we could end up running into a bigger problem...

When Bradham got in trouble, DP did nothing to discipline him. Talked about being a father figure. Now Huff, and it's the same thing. Guys are going to start thinking they can get away with stuff...come to practice 5 minutes late, fall asleep during a meeting. What happens when DP tries to discipline a guy for showing up late? The guy won't accept responsibility for it, he'll be mad at DP, and he'll question why he got in trouble for something so small when Huff and Bradham didn't.

When the coach loses the respect and authority, he also loses the message. Players will start tuning him out altogether.

It may sound like crazy rambling, but this is how a locker room begins to unravel. They need to fix this, fast. The whole "I'm gonna put my arm around him and love on him and guide him in the right direction" doesn't really fly when what Huff did was very clearly illegal with no grey area.

i dont usually like the idea of firing a HC after one season, but DP seems completely lost. The only thing that scares me is that last year they couldnt get any coaches they wanted to they settled on DP. I do think a lot of coaches would be intrigued to work with Wentz though

I think the best option for now would be to see if the Ravens fire Harbough. If they do, and you can get him, I'm fine with getting rid of DP. If you can't get Harbough, going through another round of coaching interviews isn't very appealing.

I don't think they really even tried to get anyone other than Pederson. It seemed like they did a couple cursory interviews because they felt like they had to but he was always the guy.

A much-needed one too. You got a reliable receiver in Alshon Jeffery (if he stays healthy), and the potential deep threat that opens things up in Torrey Smith.

#1 Alshon, great hands, great routes, major red zone threat
    #2 Smith, great speed
#3 Matthews, playing in the slot where he's best

If Alshon stays healthy and away from Lane Johnson, the WR position is perfectly positioned

Thoughts on CB or RB at #14? Before we locked up the WRs I thought the Eagles D was closer to completed, so it made sense to go CB. Now that it's the offense which is closer, maybe it makes sense to get a RB so that the passing game can be truly opened up

We could also go WR, though I don't think they will. I'd still love to have a young WR to grow with Wentz

I'm not ready to give up on Agholor yet but he could very well be that guy if he gets his shit together.

your 1st round draft pick has 59 catches for 648 yards and 3 TDs in 28 games. And probably a dozen drops, but we know those are calculated in some weird way.

Agholor may have had the potential to become a #1, but I don't see how that's possible anymore. A good WR has to be selfish and over-confident, and at this point it's so deep in his head. He's Knoblauched his way out

scheme was part of that. Scheme isn't part of it with Agholor. And though you need confidence to play DE, it's nothing close to WR/CB. Once that confidence is gone, it's gone. He may bounce back and have a successful career but I dont think that's possible in Philly (and thats nothing to do with Philly fans. He just needs a complete reboot if he has any chance)

I wouldn't mind getting Mike Williams if available at the 14. I think they should grab the best RB/WR at that spot unless they would be reaching for one if others were taking sooner

If Cook really is generational, and he's still around, I think we have to take him. If not we should double down on CB, 1st and 2nd round

    That's my point!

    Crusher Doug

He has his moments where he reverts back to his learnings under Reid, but this year theyve been few and far between. I think it was fair to be skeptical about him- he was literally the organizations attempt to relive the "glory days". I'm thrilled he's where he is. The guys love him, his gameplans are generally outstanding, he's surrounded himself by a great staff, and he makes adjustments. What more could we ask for?
