The best religious reference in any song written by Dave

I know that Dave puts a lot of religous references in his songs but I was wondering which sticks out most to all of you ants out there. So I want to know which line grabbed your attention and still gives y'all butterflies. It's hard for me to let go of his references in "I won't give it away", "spaceman", and bartender.

    What You Are:

Hoping to God on high is like clinging to straws while drowning.

Not saying I agree or disagree, I just love those lyrics.

    Two Step intro 10-02-07 FTW!
The whole thing is about religion, but the quote that gets me is:

"The idea that he would be paying attention to us kind of diminishes the whole idea of God in the first place"

This is far and away my favorite Two Step intro. - I especially like when Dave comes up with lyrics that question what is truth and what is faith.

I'd say Minarets and Spoon overall, but my favorite singular religious line comes from DIDO:

"I'll just make up some new god of my own
And have a funky tea party by myself"

    Bartender 4.7.02

    falling in alone
    oh then we fall away
cause someday oh in my dream
    before me there stood God
    there spinning around
    oh and around
    he said there my son
    what are you wanting
    in your life
    i want to believe
    i want to believe
    he said you're there alone
    but I don't believe you're real
    cause you're never there
    never there
    oh i'm never there
oh i want to believe and i
    i want to believe
    don't walk away
    you believe in love
    rain down on my lullaby
    love i'd love to believe
    your belief
    oh there
    you love me
    love right
    i'm right
    you beat up all yeah
    all yeah
    if i'm wrong
    cause i'll fight
    cause i'll fight
    cause i'll fight
    yeah

IMO, some of his most honest "lyrics" about his personal stance on religion.

Such simple yet powerful words about what must have been running through Jesus' head when he was on the cross. The doubts he must've had about whether he truly was the son of god and whether it was really worth sacrificing himself in such a painful way for the very sinners that put him to death. Great imagery, too, just a perfect verse.

Surprised no Grey St mentions yet.

    The Last Stop

Points out the irony of wars faught over religion, he refrences the Middle East, but besides WWI and WWII that is the area of the world were the majority (not all) of wars were faught over religion, ie The Crusades, Irasel and Palenstine, etc. The driving purpose of The Crusades was that our religion is superior, if you dont convert, then you are a Hethen and must die. Islam has a whole section/subgroup of their religon based on violence. How do you defeat an enemy who believes if he dies in battle there will be 12 virgins waiting for him in Heaven?
