Re: Hunger for the Great Light > The Last Stop

The mumbling and incoherent start of The Last Stop alone is 17.5 light years better than all of Hunger for the Great Light

It's tough but Hunger might their worst song. I'd put it in the same catergory as stand up, you and me, gaucho, rooftop and smooth rider as basically unlistenable.

At first I thought this was referincing a segue, in which case I'd definitely be down for that as a 1-2.

I don't fully understand the hate for Hunger. Sure the lyrics are cheesy, but it's way more fun live than several songs in their catalog. And with that in mind, I think it's hard to put it at the very bottom.

the only thing Hunger has going for it is that it's consistently performed well. it's an uninspired song, but it's easy, catchy, uptempo. the band can play it after not playing it for months and there's not much difference between it. LS is so hit or miss in a live setting. You never know what type of LS it's going to be. Sure, LS is a hard song, but they are world class musicians; there shouldn't be as many flubs in any of their performances as there are on a nightly basis. sure, they've made it part of their shtick throughout the years, but no reason a great song like LS shouldn't live up in a live setting -- and it does only a fraction of the time

Have you ever been blinded by the lights they do for Hunger live? That alone makes me hate the song. I have a hand crafted playlist of 127 songs by DMB and Hunger is not on it.

not saying I'd want to hear them again real soon, but one of my 2015 tour highlights was the back-to-back Hunger - I Did It on Deer Creek N1. It's always great to hear a song live for the first time and I enjoyed both quite a bit.

Would love to hear Steady as We Go as an E1 full band (especially instead of many of the usual suspects that are sometimes played in that spot).

Is there a way to see who voted? I want to know which 4 people voted Hunger so I can make sure to totally devalue their opinion in the future. I guess 3... the OP is still here and I have to assume he voted.

Note to the OP - I respect your right to have alternative facts. I just can't get on board with them.

Bottom 5 with: Smooth Rider, Be Yourself, Time Bomb, and Spotlight. I would rather hear the ladies droning too long on the Angel outro leading in to Out Of My Hands.

-Angel the problem was in the livearrangement and having the ladies drone on forever. It's a straight ahead blues that was forced into being a jam ballad.
-I Did It I love this riff. If they ever jammed it or updated the lyrics to not suck, people'd at least tolerate it.
-Everybody Wake Up this is at least as good as Monkey Man
-Out Of My Hands Bottom 10.
    -Smooth Rider Bottom 1
-Stand Up Grateful Dead style as an outro or intro to another song, it would be great. On its own it doesn't go anywhere.
    -Shake Me Like A Monkey
    -Time BombBottom 4
    -If Only Yes, I would.
    -Rooftop Yes, I would.
-Blackjack If they ever finished it, then we'd have an idea if it is anything more than an ASTB? wannabe
    -Be Yourself Bottom 3
    -Plastic Girl Bottom 10

Time Bomb pisses me off, we all saw how it started out in the studio and even the finished song starts out so incredibly well. If you just take the music at the beginning before the lyrics come in they could have turned it into the next Dreaming Tree, that being the ceiling and something like LITHOG as the floor, instead it's just bad and belongs nowhere in or near Two Step.
