Re: Whiskey drinker's thread

I'm not a huge fan of anything on the rocks. I drink it too fast which leads to, well, quite a few things. I'm not ready to be a father yet.

I support this thread. Whiskey is super duper. I have had a significant amount this evening/early morning.

100% support this thread. Anyone in Florida... you need to try Palm Ridge reserve. It's a micro-batch whiskey made in FL. When I first saw the label and it said, "Florida Whiskey"... I kinda chuckled and assumed it was some sort of half-assed whiskey. I mean really... Florida? Whiskey? Cmon.. but DAMN it's good! Slightly expensive too... 50 bucks for a fifth. But well worth it. I brought a bottle home to NH 3 weeks ago and unfortunately, it's more than half way gone

Yes. It was actually the first Whiskey I ever liked. It's sweeter than most so it turns some people off. But I think it's the perfect introductory whiskey.

    Re: Whiskey drinker's thread

    Here's my progression:

    1) Southern Comfort - Started drinking this in high school because frankly it had just enough sweetness without being a woman liquor that made it go down easy. Hell, even if you got the black label (100 proof I believe) if you could still take pulls of it.

    2) Crown Royal - This was my old boss' favorite and this was my whiskey pretty much all of college. However, I always questioned whether it was really worth the price they charged. I know think it's just a little too bitter or dry for my taste.

    3) Makers Mark - Very recently I've been completely converted to this. Ordered shots of it at a bar where I live and it was at that moment I realized this is definitely the best. Smooth, but still gives you a nice burn to warm you up in the winter. It's the perfect balance between not being too sweet or too bitter. Kentucky bourbon is definitely the way to go. There's plenty of liquor stores around town where you can get good deals on Makers and, therefore, price is always right!

Tried the Jim Beam Devil's Cut last week. Very nice whiskey. I had it with just a drop of water and it was pretty smooth. It did smell exactly like the white label Beam which almost turned me off of it though. Glad it didn't. Very nice especially for the price.

Scotch or bust. Had the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban yesterday, which I've always enjoyed. The difference is that the bar serving it sold it for six bucks. Awesome for a $50-a-bottle drink.

Nice, I drink vodka but may give it a try. The only brown I'll go for is Wild Turkey which is very good to me.

You need to learn how to drink like a man. Southern Comfort and Vodka are not men drinks.

Anyone ever had WhistlePig rye? I've heard good things and was thinking of getting a bottle for the holidays. It was started by Dave Pickerell, former longtime master distiller at Maker's Mark.

Tried some great whiskeys this weekend ...

    25-year old Glenfarclas
    21-year Glenfiddich
    18-year Highland Park
    15-year Balvenie
    14-year Balvenie

All were fantastic, with the Glenfarclas as one of the best scotches I've ever tried. The two Balvenie's reaffirmed my belief that it is my favorite distillery.

Tellamore Dews was my drink of choice the other night. The bar I was at didn't have Jamesons. I put Tellamores up there with the best of em.

It's Tullamore. It's quite a bit softer and sweeter than Jameson, good stuff. I prefer the hint of spice taste with Jameson though.
