I am trying to become a runner. I've been getting out every 2 to 3 days and can make it about a mile or 1.5 miles on a good day before I have to walk it off. The running sucks, but I feel great afterwards, just knowing that I did it. Haven't seen any significant improvements in how my body looks or how far I can go, so I hope all that is coming. The toughest part about the whole thing is breaking that mental barrier each time so that I don't make up a lame excuse about why I shouldn't go out and run.

Welcome to the thread and to the wonderful world of running.
You are starting off at a good pace and distance. Bottom line, stick with it. You will see the results, but you have to stick with it. Right now your body is freaking out as you start this process. Once your body figures out what the hell is going on, you will see the results. Also remember, your body won't lose anything it feels that it needs.
As for the mental barrier, I don't think one person in this thread doesn't struggle with that. You just have to find that one thing that gets you out the door and onto the road/treadmill. Once you find that, welcome to addiction.

Both places offer so much, and are beautiful. I was amazed that in Seattle how just a few miles east of the city it felt like I was in the woods. Lush trees and gorgeous mountains. Then you add Puget Sound to the mix, and the city is breath taking.
