Listening to some of my favorite Roi stuff this morning. This always makes me laugh:
Roi: "There's gonna be a pretty serious party after we finish playing here, so uh.. You can ask anybody in the band about details but.. Theres gonna be a party in room 223 at the Comfort Inn.. It's gonna be a pretty big party. And if your a male, don't even bother to come.. No it's alright you can come but you have to stay outside."

every time i look at the calender and see that it's august 19th, i remember the exact second that i fell in love with this band. I was 14, and in the car with my long time buddy as we were being driven through the mountains in Maine to pick up a massive granite step which we were going to place in front of a set of rotting steps on the way into his summer house, which had been in his family for over a century. Towards the end of the trip, my buddy motions to me that he is going to put something in the CD drive, and although i was a casual fan at the time, we made a mutual decision to throw on some DMB. He had just gotten Live At Folsom Field, and up until then i had not heard much of their stuff, other than what my parents had in their collection at the time. Towards the end of Bartender, i remember getting that tingly feeling up my spine as the pennywhistle started. I had never heard anything like that before in my life, and i instantly asked my friend to restart the song so i could listen to it again within the context of the entire song. Since that day, i have seen this band 18 times, collected over 20 gigs of music, and shared my love of this music with countless other people. Thank you Roi, for all of the beautiful memories.

For every sax line I hear I still think of Leroi, even if played by Jeff Coffin. His sax tone will forever exist in the thousands of recorded shows and the albums that we still get to listen to. Part of him always lives on in his solos and improvs in DMB.. For some reason, the pennywhistle at the end of bartender always reminds me the most of him...

The story that Carter tells in the front page interview about the dragonfly at the Gorge almost makes me cry. Roi definitely was letting the band know that he had found peace on the other side and that he would always be with them on stage.
